There were candles everywhere. Candles that smelt like dawn; that cast a glowing light upon the walls. She could see her silhouette, complemented by a larger, looming one. She had to smile at that, the way his shadow seemed so much bigger than hers when in actual fact she was only about half a head shorter than him at most.

They blossomed in the candlelight, two separate people joined by a common fear, entwined by the same knowledge, yet unwittingly enraptured in each other. They became one, just like that.

So Emily Prentiss had to smile, because the man beside her was someone she could never imagine wanting to be with someone like her.

But yet here they were. Fused together by something. Sharing an entire lifetime in a moment. Living just for this, just to be here, together.

And Emily Prentiss grinned at the man beside her. "You think they'll ever find out, Hotch?"
