Ethan sighed softly as he looked around him, wishing that Spencer was here in the club while he was working. But his boyfriend was far away, across the country working on a case with the BAU. He would have to take a cab home tonight, instead of walking.

And he would be spending another lonely evening by himself, without being able to hold Spencer or kiss him or touch him. It wasn't an appealing thought.

Still, he'd known when he came here that Spencer had responsibilities, and that he was gone a lot. He'd chosen to get involved, knowing that his boyfriend couldn't always be here. And the time he spent with Spencer made up for the time that they were apart.

Still, this wasn't a time when he wanted to be alone.

It was terrifying to think that the men who had harassed and threatened him in New Orleans were now here, in DC, interfering with his life even more. He didn't want to walk home, even though it was only a little over six blocks. He didn't want to give them an opportunity to ....

To what? Jump out at him from the shadows and threaten his life -- or take it? Ethan suppressed a shudder at the thought; it wasn't something he wanted to give any credence to, but he knew that he had to be careful. He couldn't take his own safety for granted.

At least Spencer wasn't around so they could threaten him. His boyfriend was safe -- at least for the moment. But he had no idea of knowing how long that safety could be taken for granted. Sooner or later, his enemies would try to use Spencer against him.

There were heavy, dark storm clouds that were threatening to destroy the happiness he'd found with Spencer. After all the time they'd spent apart, it didn't seem fair that now they were being threatened by something out of his past that shouldn't have followed him here.

Those clouds were gathering, growing darker, threatening his future.

Ethan's hands curled into fists without him realizing it. Nothing was going to jeopardize his future with the man he loved, he silently vowed. Nothing was going to take him away from Spencer. If he had to, he would tell the FBI about the threats, and make sure that they were protected.

Really, he didn't have much of a choice about doing so. Not if the threats continued, and the gathering storm clouds kept getting darker and more ominous.

Sighing again, Ethan unclenched his fists and reached into his pocket for his phone. He would have to call a cab to pick him up, and he'd have to wait for it to get here. He just hoped that at some point, he would be able to walk home from work without those gathering clouds at his heels.
