Would things have been different if he and Spencer had met in a different way?

Greg couldn't help wondering just how his relationship with Spencer might have gone if he hadn't been an escort when they'd met, if he had just been .... well, a CSI.

Of course, if that had been the case, they might never have met. Even though Spencer came back to Vegas to see his mother, and even though they both worked in law enforcement, he doubted that they would have met along those lines. It had taken something odd to bring them together.

He should never have been working for that escort service, Greg told himself, rolling over and burying his face in his pillow. It had been the worst thing he could have done.

Because of that, Foyet had been able to find him all too easily.

He shook his head, pushing that thought away. No, it wasn't the service's fault. They hadn't known that Foyet was a killer -- or a rapist. They were blameless.

What had happened to him had been brought about because of Foyet's crazed notion of "paying back" the members of the BAU. He'd seen a chance and taken it, and that was nobody's fault. He couldn't blame his job, and he certainly didn't blame Spencer.

His boyfriend would never have wanted that to happen to him, even before they knew each other. No one was to blame other than Foyet himself.

Still, he couldn't help wondering if things would have ended up like this if he and Spencer had met on the job, or in some other way than they had.

Would the two of them even be together? Would they have been attracted to each other if they'd met on the job? Greg was sure that they would have been; he couldn't imagine not having felt that immediate attraction to Spencer, that tug in his heart he'd felt when their gazes had first met.

What would things be like now if they'd met a long time ago, and Spencer had been his fist? That was something he didn't want to think about.

Spencer probably wouldn't have liked him when he was a party boy.

That wasn't his boyfriend's thing, and he knew it. It wasn't his thing any more, and honestly, he was glad that he'd outgrown the clubbing scene.

He was a far different person now than he'd been when he was into that, and Spencer had fallen in love with the person he was now. There was no use wishing that they'd met in a different way, because that would change who he was, and then Spencer might not have fallen for him.

The only thing he'd change was the fact that Foyet had become involved in their lives, Greg thought with a sigh. That was the only dark cloud in their sky.

He just hoped that cloud would vanish, and the sooner the better.
