When Morgan got to work, he found a note taped to the top of his desk. Written in Reid's spiky printing, it said:

"Morgan":
In case you forgot, Gideon and I are in Philadelphia today, teaching a seminar. We probably won't be back until tomorrow. You said you could feed Louis while I'm gone. If you can't, though, just ask JJ, alright? You have my key.
Thanks,
"Reid"

Morgan frowned, and dug in his pocket for his keys. Sure enough, there was a foreign key on his keychain that had a small piece of masking tape on it that said S.R.

~~~
The grey cat sat on top of the fridge, glaring at Morgan, who glared back. "There, I fed you. I'm leaving. Happy?" the agent asked the cat, frustrated. Turning away, Derek muttered, "So much for animals liking me."
Then he heard a woman scream, and drew his gun.
~~~

Reid didn't usually answer his phone in restaurants, but he checked the display, and saw it was Morgan. He apologized to Gideon, and answered it.

"Morgan?"

"Hey," the older agent sounded stressed. "I've got some news, but first off - has your cat had all his shots?"

"Did he bite you?"

"Yes." He did not sound pleased.

"Louis is clean. Bandaids are in the bathroom cupboard. That's not the bad news, is it?"

"No." Morgan took a breath. "There was a break-in at your building. Attempted robbery. Your neighbor was attacked ... I didn't catch her name, but it's the older lady in 403."

"Jackie. Is she alright?"

"EMTs say it's just a broken arm and a concussion, they're taking her in. I'm just glad I was here."

"Yeah. Me too." Reid sighed, relieved. "You should make sure they call her daughter, her number's on my fridge in case of emergencies."

"I will…I gotta go make a statement. When are you getting back?"

"Not until the morning."

"Well, when you do, you're staying with me until you find a place with decent security." Derek said firmly.

"You're not going to take no for an answer, are you?" Reid asked apprehensively.

"I'm really not."

Spencer sighed. "If Clooney eats Louis, I'm going to blame you," he warned.

"Fine. We'll gladly put up with the devil cat if it means I don't have to worry about you. Call me when you get back."

"I will."

As Reid put his phone away, Gideon smiled at him. "So, it's going well?"

Spencer blinked. "Sorry?"

"Your relationship with Derek." Gideon filled in, with a knowing look.

~Of course Jason knows. Jason knows everything.~ "You don't mind?"

"The sexual tension between the two of you has evaporated. You both seem in much better spirits. If you're committed to making the relationship work, I don't see it becoming a problem."

Reid smiled at his mentor. "Thanks."

Jason paused. "Just…don't tell Hotch, alright?"

~~~
Reid's bedroom was torn apart, and he and Morgan sat amidst the mess, trying to sort his things into boxes. Spencer sat cross-legged on the floor, trying to discreetly reorganize the boxes Morgan had packed. Pulling clothes out of drawers at random, Derek pretended he didn't notice.
"Uh, Spencer?" Derek cleared his throat, holding up a pair of silky black thong underwear obviously meant for a woman.
The genius looked up, and, seeing the look on his boyfriend's face, burst out laughing. "They're not mine, Derek, they're JJ's," he managed, unable to fully calm down.
"Well can you blame me for being confused? You said you didn't like women!" Morgan defended, smiling himself. "Is there a story as to why you have JJ's sexy panties?"
"First of all, I don't think of women's panties as sexy, especially not Jen's." Spencer rolled his eyes, but told the story anyway. "She practically lived here for weeks after I was discharged from the hospital. At first, I wasn't particularly mobile ... you witnessed it, you know the crutches didn't go well ... but, really… Neither of us could sleep through the night, so she stayed here, so that when we had nightmares, or panic attacks, or just didn't want to admit we were afraid to sleep, we made coffee, played cards and ate junk food." Reid shrugged. "Jen says everything can be cured by time, chocolate, and beating me at cards."
Morgan smiled at his boyfriend. "And what about you?"
"Well, I'm incapable of beating myself at cards, so I wouldn't know about that," the doctor smiled, a little sadly. "I didn't mind being in the hospital. Afterwards… Jen and Jason had to keep track of my medications, make sure I took them. I was… afraid." Spencer took a deep breath. "But, once I got off of the codeine and the crutches, there was the Garcia-trying-to-cheer-me-up stage, which was... interesting."
"I'll bet."
Spencer looked up at Derek, and the older agent's eyes were sympathetic. "Hey, remember when the team got back from Chicago, and I was looking at you like that, what you said to me?"
"No, what did I say?"
"'When you brood, I brood, so shut up.' ... and I pointed out I hadn't actually said anything, at which point you told me that in that case, I should think more quietly."
Morgan chuckled. "I remember. I guess if I said it, it must be good advice."
"Well, you're kind of hindering my optimism. I was trying to get excited about how we'll be able to have sex before work tomorrow, and your sympathy is even less arousing than JJ's underwear."
Derek smiled. "I love you."
"Thank you ... that's much better."
~~~

Reid stood in the middle of Morgan's kitchen, staring at all the open cupboards and drawers. "You have pre-made food, you have snack food, you have an extraordinary amount of beer, and more take-out menus than I've ever seen in one place, but you have no actual ingredients with which to create new foods." He looked at Derek. "I thought your sisters were exaggerating, but you really can't cook, can you?"

The older man frowned. "When did my sisters tell you I can't cook?"

"In Chicago. I had no patience for the stubborn cops that hated you, so Gideon sent Emily and I to work out victimology on you. She left to follow a lead, and I spent the afternoon with your mother and sisters, eating birthday cake and looking at your football trophies and naked baby pictures." Spencer shrugged.

"Sounds like you tried real hard to profile me." Derek smiled, coming closer and slipping an arm around his boyfriend's waist.

"I learned plenty. Your inability to cook, how much they spoil you, the fire department incident..."

"They told you about the fire department?" Morgan sighed. "Sometimes I do not like having sisters."

"They also said you talk about me." Reid said, looking at him with a small smile.

"I guess my secret's out. I've got a little crush," he admitted, pulling his lover close against him.

Spencer kissed Derek, then pulled back to say, "So you're hopeless."

"Yeah," the black man admitted reluctantly.

"I'm not."

"Let's go shopping."

~~~
Derek was kind of miffed to wake up alone, but when he found Spencer in the kitchen, wearing only underwear, mismatched socks, and an apron, making omelettes and French toast, his only comment was, "Never leave."
Reid looked up and smiled brightly at him. "If you're always naked, I might not want to."
Morgan shrugged. "I was planning on finding you and dragging you back to bed," he explained, sitting down at the table, perfectly comfortable with his nudity.
"And now?"
Derek smirked. "There's always the shower."
~~~

Scene 12: Compromise

"We should do something." Morgan stated, looking down at Spencer, who was sprawled lazily on the couch. The genius smirked at him, and he added, "Other than have sex."

The genius stared at him like he was an outlier in a set of data. "Why?"

Derek sighed, and lifted up his boyfriend's feet so he could sit, then set them back down in his lap, as it didn't look like Reid was prepared to get up without some kind of sexual incentive. "Because it's healthy."

"Sex is healthy. Statistics show that couples who have intercourse upwards of three times per week have significant health benefits, including ... "

"Healthy for our relationship." Morgan amended. "Everything we do is work-related or sexual."

"Work includes a lot of spending time together." Reid argued.

"It includes a lot of spending time with the team, and a lot of you beating me at every game you can think of that can be played on a plane."

"That's not true… sometimes JJ beats you…"

Derek made himself take a deep breath in and out. "Spencer…"

"Okay, we'll spend time doing non-sexual things," the doctor gave in. "Just stop looking at me like when I made brownies for breakfast."

"You didn't make those brownies for breakfast! You made them so you could lick the batter off of me."

"At breakfast time - and you got that 'lets pretend we're normal' look, so I figured you wouldn't let me."

Derek smiled at the younger man. "If we hadn't had to go to work, I would've. But seriously, I want to get to know you better. And I know your body pretty well now."

Spencer smiled back. "Okay. I just don't think there's anything we both like other than work and each other."

"I don't care what we do." Reid gave him a disbelieving look. "Really. Lets do something you like, I don't know… Okay, all I'm coming up with that you like right now is science and men."

"Yeah, that covers a lot of it… no wonder I dated so many scientists."

"Not helpful. Unless your plan is for us to go seduce some good-lookin' scientist and bring him back here for a threesome… okay, I can see you picturing it. Very discreet, Reid."

"You're the one who said 'threesome', not me," the doctor protested with a grin.

"So what else do you like?"

"Um…literature ... hey, you asked… science fiction?"

"There you go ... what else?"

Some time later, Spencer read off their list of common interests. "The things we both like other than work and sex are: sci-fi, our coworkers, winning, coffee, your mother, nature, chocolate-chip pancakes, Will Smith, psychology, my brain, your tattoos, seeing the lizards at the zoo, Finding Nemo, being smarter than we look, and Lego."

Derek laughed, shaking his head. "Great. We'll just get some Lego, some Will Smith movies and a gecko and we'll be set."

"Or we could just compromise."

"Yeah, there's that. Or we could try new things… my mind went to a really dirty place just now."

"…Whatever it is, we are not getting a copy of The Gay Man's Kama Sutra. There is a lot in that book that looks like a good idea but isn't."

"Let me guess ... kinky chemistry guy strikes again?"

"There were good reasons I broke up with him. Very good reasons. That's all I'm saying."

~~~
Clooney still didn't like Reid very much, but Derek insisted the dog liked everyone, and that they just hadn't spent enough time together. Spencer thought this was just wishful thinking, but didn't say so. In their jobs, it was so rare to do something so normal as walk the dog, that the doctor was excited to come along.
"What's your favourite colour?"
Morgan considered it for a moment. "Red. What's yours?"
Spencer smiled. "I have a physics doctorate, Derek."
"So? That means you can't have a favourite colour?"
"Physicists see colour as simply light, broken down into frequencies and wavelengths."
"Fine. So what's your favourite wavelength?"
Reid grinned. "Approximately 450 nanometres."
"And if my eyes were to detect that wavelength, how would my brain interpret it?"
"…blue."
"Alright then."
~~~

Spencer leaned in the doorway, holding a big mixing bowl, licking brownie batter off a spatula, watching Derek strip off his clothes. "What're you doing?"

"Getting undressed. It's 2:00 am."

The genius frowned. "You never sleep naked unless it's after sex."

Derek grinned at him. "I know."

Spencer grinned back. "I'll go put this in the fridge."

Morgan came over to him, dipped a finger in the bowl, and smeared chocolate down the side of his boyfriend's neck. Then he leaned in and licked it off. "I wouldn't."

Dr. Reid's smirk held promises that Derek very much hoped he would keep.

~~~
Scene 13: Aftermath
Spencer squinted at the sun, turning off the alarm clock. "God, I'm really sticky," he groaned, propping himself up to kiss his boyfriend quickly. His hair fell forward into his face, and he saw that the ends were matted together with dried chocolate.
Derek laughed. "You look like crap."
"Thank you." Reid shifted, and made a face. "That is the last time we use brownie batter for lube."
~~~

In the shower, Spencer braced his hands against the wall, moaning, as Derek's soapy fingers worked in and out of his ass. The black man leaned in close, murmuring into his ear, "Gotta make sure I'm very thorough."

Turning his head to kiss him, the genius reached back and gripped his lover's cock. "Well you won't get deep enough with your fingers."

Derek smirked. "Yeah, good thinking."

~~~
"Alright, let's go." Hotch stated, and they all started to gather their things to head for the plane ... except Reid. Morgan looked at him quizzically.
"Aren't you coming?"
"Actually, no. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, to see about my foot, and then I'll fly out and meet you."
As the last of their team filed out, Derek came closer to Spencer, leaning on the table next to him. "You didn't tell me you were having trouble with your foot. Is it just a checkup?"
"No. I'm losing feeling in my last two toes. I just didn't think you'd care," he shrugged.
"Hey ... I care about all your parts," the older agent smiled at his boyfriend intimately. Then he stood up. "I guess I gotta go. Call me, okay?"
Spencer smiled. "I'll make sure to tell you how all of my body parts are doing."
~~~

Morgan sat down on the hotel room's lumpy bed, waiting for Reid to pick up the phone.

"Reid."

"It's me." Derek informed him. "So what's up? How're your toes?"

"Apparently the nerve is being pinched because one of the surgical pins ..."

"Okay, never took biology, don't need the long, gross answer. Give me short and practical," the older man requested.

"I have to have another operation, or the numbness will be permanent," Reid replied factually.

"Shit. When?"

"I thought since I'm already uninvolved in this case, I would do it as soon as I could, so… tomorrow."

"I'm gonna talk to Gideon, see if I can get home to help you out."

"You don't need to ..."

"Aren't you gonna be back on crutches? 'Cause I do not have faith you won't fall down and get that head wound you're always talkin' about avoiding."

"Well, yes, but ..."

"Someone needs to be there for you, Spencer. And if I can help it, this time it's gonna be me."

Reid sighed. "You can't just leave in the middle of a case. I'm not your… wife."

"Good thing. I hate weddings. If he says no, that's one thing, but I've gotta ask."

"Fine, ask him. But make sure you tell him it was not my idea."

~~~
Six hours after Morgan took Reid home from the hospital:
"You're hovering."
"I'm making sure you're okay."
"You're worse than Jason."
"I love you."
"Jason loves me."
"Not in the same way. Or at least I hope not."
Spencer made a face. "Morgan, please."
"Alright - I have issues with father figures. Sue me." Morgan knelt by the couch, where his boyfriend lay, feet propped up on pillows. He stroked Spencer's hair, asking, "You sure there's nothing you need?"
"You could do one thing for me that would really help."
"What is it?"
"Hover less."
~~~

Scene 14: Hostage Negotiation

"Derek, give me back my glasses!"

"No." Morgan set them down out of his boyfriend's reach, crossing his arms over is chest.

"I can't believe you're holding my vision hostage! This is not being helpful."

"You're supposed to be resting. Resting people don't need good vision."

"I'm reading. Reading is restful."

"Nothing that happens that fast is restful."

"Jason never took my glasses." Spencer grumbled.

"Jason didn't suck you off this morning, either."

The doctor sighed. "Fine. You still have points. But you have significantly fewer."

"I'll earn 'em back when you're feeling better."

~~~
Spencer lay with his head in Morgan's lap, supposedly watching their agreed-upon Star Wars (original trilogy) marathon, but seemingly zoned out. Derek ran his fingers through soft brown hair affectionately. "What're you thinking about?"
The genius kept his eyes trained on the television. "Brown."
"…Exciting."
"I think it might be my favourite colour. All my favourite things are brown. Coffee, chocolate, brownies…"
The black man smiled. "Me."
Spencer nodded. "Yeah, my favourite lovers."
Morgan arched an eyebrow. "Plural? You've got other brothers out there?"
"Just Warrick."
"And who is Warrick?"
"My friend in Vegas."
"You said he was your lover."
"Well, when I'm in town, we have marathon sex, so I guess he is." Spencer said casually.
Morgan paused. "You had a case in Vegas a couple of weeks ago."
"Mmhmm. We had dinner."
"And at dinner, did you happen to mention you were seeing somebody?"
"Actually, it never came up. We mostly talk about science. He's a CSI." Spencer smiled. "You're waiting to hear I broke up with him."
"Yes."
The doctor yawned, rolling over onto his back, loking up at Derek. "You can't break up with someone you were never exclusive with." He paused. "Crap, his birthday's this month. It's going to be hard to think of something other than sex this year."
Derek sighed. "You're trying to pay me back for taking your glasses."
Spencer grinned. "Yeah."
~~~

Derek took his time kissing his boyfriend, exploring his mouth, running a hand up under the smaller man's t-shirt, wanting to feel his skin. Spencer moaned softly beneath him, pressing closer, taking his cue from his lover and letting his hands map Morgan's bare skin, tracing the tattoo on his lower back from memory.

Spencer's eyes fell shut as Derek's talented fingers found his nipple, playing with it until the younger man whimpered quietly into the kiss. Releasing Reid's mouth, he murmured, "You like that?"

"Yeah," the doctor breathed, pulling Morgan into a heated kiss. "Mmm, see? We can make out without it ending in sex. I don't even ..." the younger man shifted even closer, "- want to."

Derek chuckled. "I didn't know they let such shitty liars into the FBI," he teased, brushing Spencer's hair out of the way, kissing the sensitive place just under his ear. The doctor moaned as his boyfriend licked and sucked at his skin, grinding his hips up into Morgan's.

"Right. If the unsubs start licking my neck we'll be done for," he gasped. "Are you going to fuck me?"

"No," the older man mumbled, and bit him gently.

"Please?" Reid tried, slipping a hand between their bodies to rub at his lover's cock through his pants.

"We talked about this. There's no way I won't hurt you." Derek insisted, claiming Spencer's mouth in a brief, rough kiss.

"I don't care," the genius protested between kisses. "Can't you just this one time give in to peer pressure?"

The black man yanked Spencer's shirt off, immediately pulling him back into his arms and pressing heated kisses down his neck. "Maybe if you were capable of staying still, but we both know that's not gonna happen. So no. No cock for you."

The doctor got his boyfriend's pants open and took his erection in hand, stroking him confidently. "You're hard for me," he argued, producing lube from his pocket, rubbing some in his hands to warm it before gripping Derek's cock again.

"I'm not giving in on this," Derek moaned, burying his face in Reid's shoulder, unable to help thrusting down into his hand.

"You sure?" Spencer practically purred, licking up the side of Derek's neck. "Not even if I ask really nicely? Not even if I beg you to fuck me?"

Morgan looked into his boyfriend's face, about to give in ... until he saw the glint of impending victory in Spencer's eyes. The older man extracted himself and got up off the bed, handing Spencer back his shirt. "I said no. Stop trying to take advantage of me."

Reid stared at him. "You're really refusing to have sex with me."

"Yeah, I am. I know if we do, you're gonna hurt yourself, and I don't want that."

The doctor paused. "You know what would've made that more noble? Not fooling around with me in the first place."

"You said we were capable of making out without it going anywhere!"

"Obviously I was lying so I could get in your pants."

Derek sighed. "You had surgery yesterday, you can't even walk properly. Get some rest." He set Spencer's glasses on the nightstand next to the TV remote and a couple of books.

When Derek had left the room, Reid smirked, and put his glasses on, muttering, "I knew I'd get them back."

Scene 15: Therapy

Spencer sucked his lover's cock eagerly. He could feel him getting close, and slid a hand between Morgan's legs, pressing a finger against his hole ...

Derek's whole body tensed. Reid raised his head, asking, "Good or bad thing?" The look on the older man's face could only be described as anxious. "Got it ... I won't do that," the doctor promised, moving to resume his task.

"No, stop." Derek sighed, sitting up, gesturing to Reid to do the same.

The genius complied. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you didn't like ..."

"No, I don't want you to think you did anything wrong, it's just …The problem is, I don't know if I like that or not." Derek took a deep breath, and forced himself to look into his boyfriend's eyes. "The only person who ever… went there, was… Carl."

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to… bring that up for you, I ..."

"No. Stop the guilt thing." Morgan ordered. "I'm not done."

"Sorry."

"Hey ... shut up." Spencer opened his mouth to apologize again, but closed it when his boyfriend glared at him, and settled for looking attentive. "Truth is, I haven't been with a lot of guys. Other than… the abuse, I messed around some in college, but… there was never anyone I trusted enough for that… Until now."

"Derek, we don't have to do that. I don't want you to be uncomfortable, and it's not like I'm unsatisfied with our sex life. I just thought you might like it, because I do, and it was something we hadn't tried… I'm perfectly fine never being on top, you ..."

"I know that. But I've been thinking about it, and… as far as I see it, what happened with Carl wasn't sex. Sex happens between consenting adults, and that didn't. Whole separate category. As far as I'm concerned, I've never had anal sex where I was on the bottom."

"You don't have to want that. There are a lot of things I've never tried, and ..."

"I know. And if we did that, and I didn't like it, and didn't want to do it again, that's one thing. But I decided a long time ago that I wasn't gonna be his victim anymore, and if I can't have sex with my own boyfriend because of what he did to me, then I'm not free of it. I'm not gonna make this decision based on fear."

"I think that's … amazingly brave." Spencer said, with a soft smile.

Derek forced his breathing to be normal and even, resolving himself. "We better do this now, before I chicken out."

"You want to do it now?"

"Don't you get nervous, you can't do that to me."

"Sorry, sorry… "

"C'mon, you've gotta make it seem fun so I won't be afraid."

Spencer shook his head. "It's a lot of pressure!"

"Spencer, guaranteed to be better than the last time. It's not like I've got a lot of expectations."

"I know, but I don't want to… what if I hurt you, and then we're… not the same with each other?"

Morgan put his hands on his lover's shoulders, looking into his eyes. "Look, we love each other, right?"

"Yes." Spencer nodded.

"And I penetrate you all the time. And you ..."

"Can't get enough of it."

"Exactly. So if it's that good, I should be in on it, right?"

Reid nodded again. "Right. It's just… something we haven't tried yet. Anal sex is not a bad thing, it can be excellent. And we have incredible sexual chemistry. And you'll tell me if you're not comfortable, right? Or if I hurt you? You won't just go along with it?"

"I promise."

Spencer took a deep breath. "Okay. Okay, let's just… start at the beginning." He leaned in and kissed Morgan, and it was perfectly normal, it was them, and they quickly relaxed into it, lying down together and making out.

Reid pulled away for a second and grabbed some lube, settling down again to kiss his boyfriend. "I won't ambush you, I promise," he mumbled against Derek's mouth, slicking his hand and wrapping it around the older man's erection, stroking him slowly.

When he was ready, Spencer nudged Derek onto his back, and moved over him, kissing leisurely down his chest. As he migrated, sucking at one nipple, then the other, the genius's hand migrated too, parting his lover's legs, and idly playing with his balls until Derek relaxed under his touch.

Spencer sat back a little, spreading more lube onto his hand. "Derek, I want you to look at me, touch me, just …pay attention to me, because… it's just you and me, and that's easy, right?"

"Right," Derek agreed, trying to stay relaxed as his boyfriend moved his hand back between his legs, fingertips just circling his hole. He opened his mouth to say it was okay, that he could handle it, but Reid spoke up first.

"Before we started sleeping together, when I actually had reason ... or the time or energy -to masturbate, I used to do this," Spencer confessed with a smile. "Just… tease myself." He rubbed his fingers against Derek's hole a little longer, then slowly eased a finger into him, stroking gently just inside his lover's body. "How does that feel?"

"Weird," the older man admitted. "Not bad, but… weird."

Reid talked to Derek calmly as he prepared him, careful of how tight his boyfriend was, free hand stroking his cock to distract him.

"C'mon, Spence, I wanna do this," Morgan insisted after a while. "I never prep you half this much."

"Because I don't need it." Spencer leaned over, kissing his boyfriend deeply. "And, it's not like you're overly gentle."

Derek cringed. "Sorry."

"No, I love it. Just saying." The doctor positioned himself, warning, "Okay, this might hurt a little, but I'm going to go slowly, okay?"

Morgan nodded, eyes determined. The burn of the first, slow penetration, he couldn't help the flashback ...

//On his hands and knees, knuckles as white as the sheets he clenched in his fists, a large rough hand on his stomach and the searing violation, the feeling of this does not go there and the infinite betrayal, wanting to shout out how can you be enjoying this you godforsaken bastard and the thoughts that drowned out the physical pain, the thoughts he couldn't escape ... this is what rape must feel like and I asked for this…//

"Derek? Derek, you don't have to do this." Derek opened his eyes and Spencer's were looking down at him with concern. "I love you. I know you think this is… therapy, or something, but I don't ..."

Morgan slid his hands into his boyfriend's hair and kissed him. "It's okay. I just got a little lost."

"We should stop."

The older man smiled softly. "You know what else makes me think about that, Spencer? Oprah. It's nothing I haven't already gotten through. Now are you gonna make this worth it, or not?"

The genius shook his head, and kissed him. Reluctantly, he began to move.

~~~
Later ...
"Oh, shit. What the fuck's that?" Derek gasped.
Spencer grinned. "That, Derek Morgan, is your prostate."
"God, no wonder you like this so damn much." Morgan tilted his hips up to meet the next thrust, holding his lover's body close to his. "Fuck."
The doctor couldn't help smirking a little. "Worth it yet?"
~~~

Derek reached for his phone very carefully, trying not to jostle his boyfriend, who was asleep curled against him, head pillowed on his chest. When they slept together, Spencer was almost disturbingly immune to noise, (as though instinctively trusting Morgan to wake him if it was important,) but would wake up immediately if moved.

"Morgan," he answered in his normal tone of voice. Reid showed no sign of consciousness.

A minute later, Derek hung up the phone and jabbed the genius hard in the shoulder. Spencer shifted, and made an annoyed sound that Derek tried not to think of as cute.

"New case. I've gotta go in."

"I didn't hear the phone," Reid yawned.

"You never hear the phone. You're incredibly weird." Morgan paused. "You know this means you have to get off of me."

"No it doesn't."

"Y'know, every time you deny logic, my world makes a little less sense. C'mon." Spencer reluctantly rolled over onto his other side, freeing his boyfriend. Derek pressed a quick kiss to the back of his neck, and smiled, saying, "Thank you."

Dressed for work, Morgan returned to the bedroom, sitting down on the edge of the bed to find his boyfriend fast asleep again. He nudged him again. Spencer's only comment was a muffled noise made into the pillow that sounded displeased.

"It's fine, I can talk to the back of your head. I just wanted to say, before I go… Thank you, for last night. The more good memories I make, the less he matters. I'm used to using sex to drown out my problems, but this intimacy thing… The longer I'm with you, the more comfortable I get with my own sexuality. You were right ... you and me… it's the easiest thing I've ever done. Just… thanks."

Derek got up to leave, and Spencer grabbed his wrist, looking up at him, wide awake. Everything that needed to be said passed silently through the air between them. After a long moment, Spencer smiled slightly.

"Don't forget the rule."

"I won't." Derek smiled back.

The first rule of life, according to Spencer Reid: don't die.

Scene 16: Consequences

Derek woke up suddenly, hand instinctively going for the gun on the bedside table before he stopped himself. It had been a long time since his last nightmare. He lay back, taking a deep breath. He wanted to reach for his phone but forced himself not to. It was no coincidence that this nightmare had happened the first night in weeks he and Spencer were on different sides of the country, and that scared him a hell of a lot more than his dream.

The next day marked the end of the youngest profiler's enforced medical leave, and by that night he'd joined them, crutch-free, in Colorado. Spencer sat cross-legged on the bed in his hotel room, looking over the crime scene photos one last time before he went to sleep. He was decent, so when there was a knock at the door, he just called out for the person to come in. It was Morgan.

The first thing he said was, "Ducks?"

Spencer glanced down at his pajama bottoms with an embarrassed smile. "Jason got them for me while I was in the hospital. He likes birds."

"Right." Derek came over and closed the case file, moving it so he could sit down facing his boyfriend. "I think we should talk."

"Well, I haven't finished my handwriting analysis yet, but ..."

"Not about the case," the older agent interrupted. "About us… I know we're men, and that it's against the stereotype, but I figure, we're profilers, we can have a mature conversation about our relationship."

"Okay…" Spencer felt uncomfortable ... the look on his lover's face was unsettling him. Derek didn't usually look so serious - that was Morgan's arena.

"I … when we started this, I basically thought, we're friends, and we get along well, and that, since we had all this chemistry, it would be fun to try things out, see how it went. I figured, if it wasn't working, we could always go back to being friends. I had a backup plan, to be able to go back to being platonic without hurting you. I hoped. And now…."

Derek took Spencer's hand in his own, and the genius felt sick to his stomach. ~Is he breaking up with me?~

"I don't have a backup anymore. I wouldn't be okay if it didn't work. I've never loved someone like this. I can't be just your friend. And I used to think could read you so well, before the Hankel case, but now I'm not sure. So I need you to tell me if you ..."

"Derek." It was Spencer's turn to interrupt. "I know what you mean. I'll stop holding back if you will."

Derek let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, and pulled his boyfriend into a tight hug. "I love you."

Reid didn't pull away, he just hugged back. "I love you too. You know, this makes this the most mature relationship I've ever had?"

"Same here." Morgan paused. "I'm 31 years old, and this is the most mature relationship I've ever had. That's kinda sad."

Spencer, still being held firmly in his lover's arms, laughed. "No it isn't. We're extremely cool. We rocked this talking about our feelings thing."

Derek grinned. "Yeah, I guess we did. We're pretty awesome."

"We're superheroes."
