Ethan looked up at the clock on the wall of Spencer's living room with a sigh, wondering when his boyfriend would get back home. He had a lot to talk to Spencer about; he had finally decided to come clean with his lover about exactly why he'd come here.

he had been honest with Spencer about his reasons for moving here -- well, mostly, he told himself. He hadn't told Spencer everything, though, and it was past time that he did. He'd made huge changes in his life by being here, and Spencer needed to know exactly why he'd done it.

Telling the absolute truth shouldn't be this hard.

Would Spencer hate him for not being completely honest from the start? No, Ethan told himself firmly. Spencer wasn't the kind of person who hated anyone. He might be disappointed that Ethan hadn't trusted him enough to be absolutely truthful from the beginning, but he would forgive him.

Spencer would also worry about him, and insist that he be protected all the time, Ethan thought, frowning. He didn't want that; he didn't want Spencer to feel that he was in danger. He might have been if he had stayed in New Orleans, but he hadn't. He was in DC now.

Ethan was sure that the men who had threatened him in New Orleans wouldn't have followed him here. No one knew where he had gone other than his closest friends; he had tried to give people the impression that he was moving back home to Vegas permanently.

Vegas was halfway across the country. If anyone looked for him there, they wouldn't find him -- and they wouldn't know that he was here. Musicians were a dime a dozen in cities like DC; he wasn't going to make a big name for himself and stand out in a crowd.

He would be safe here, and that was the most important thing.

Time was making all kinds of changes in his life, Ethan reflected. First he had quit Quantico and moved to New Orleans to make music; now, he'd fled from what he had once considered a sanctuary. And it was time that he told Spencer just why he had left.

He could only hope that Spencer wouldn't be angry that he'd kept the main reason for being here a secret -- and that it would be obvious to Spencer that he'd run to the person he most wanted to be with, the person who had always held his heart in the palm of their hand.
