The door clicks shut behind Derek, lock clicking into place and Clooney's nails clicking on the hardwood on his way to the bedroom. He flips light switches as he moves through the house, carrying out the familiar routine without thinking about it. When he reaches the bedroom he pauses in the doorway, smiling at the sight of Spencer propped up in his bed. That's a part of the routine he hasn't started taking for granted yet, and he's hoping he never does.

There's a book spread out over Spencer's chest, his hair's fanned out against the pillow and his eyes are closed. His glasses are still perched on the tip of his nose, and Derek shakes his head and crosses the room to sink onto the edge of the bed. He reaches out and pulls Spencer's glasses off, folding them carefully and placing them on the nightstand. As soon as he does Spencer's eyes open, blinking sleepily up at him and then over at his glasses.

"Did I fall asleep?"

"With your glasses on. Again," Derek answers, grinning as he pulls the book out of Spencer's hands. He sets it down on the table, careful to avoid Spencer's glasses. "No big surprise. It's been a long couple of days."

"Mmm," is the only answer he gets, which he knows by now is code for 'I don't want to talk about the case'. Which is fine with Derek, because they talked all the way through it and back again while they were working it, and there's not much left to say. So he doesn't argue when Spencer reaches up to grip the front of his shirt and pull him close, and he doesn't complain when Spencer's mouth presses against his. In fact, he's been thinking about this moment all day, and there's a part of him that's glad he woke Spencer, even if he wasn't trying.

He braces one hand on the mattress next to Spencer, twisting until he can climb over Spencer without breaking the kiss. And he's not sure how he manages it, but when he comes up for air he's flat on his back and Spencer's looking down at him. Which is a pretty nice view all on its own, especially when Spencer's hair is hanging down around his face like that. He slides a hand into Spencer's hair, tugging until Spencer takes the hint and kisses him again. They're both exhausted and what they really need is sleep, but it's nice to reconnect after almost a week on with barely any time to themselves. Their relationship always takes a back seat to their job, and that's the way it has to be, but it makes coming home again that much sweeter.

Derek's still wearing all his clothes, but the last thing he wants to do is let go of Spencer again, even long enough to get dressed. Instead he pulls off his shirt and tosses it on the floor, then pulls away long enough to work his jeans off and toss them too. When he's down to just his boxers he pushes the covers back and crawls under them with Spencer, pulling him close for one last kiss.

"Get some sleep," he murmurs against Spencer's mouth, ignoring his body's demand for more. There will be plenty of time for that tomorrow, once they've both gotten some rest. For now it's enough to turn off the light and let Spencer press up against his side, pressing another kiss to the top of Spencer's head before he finally closes his eyes.****
