Will stretched out in bed, leaning back against the pillows and closing his eyes. He was tired tonight, but it was a good kind of tired. He'd had a long day at work, but he had managed to come up with evidence that had put a killer behind bars.

He got a lot of satisfaction from his work; being a cop brought a great deal of light to his life, even though a certain amount of darkness went along with that light. He saw things every day that he would rather avoid, things that could still give him nightmares.

But all of those nightmares dissipated when Ethan was by his side.

His boyfriend wasn't with him every night; they'd both agreed that if they spent all of their free time with each other, then the time they spent together wouldn't feel so special. But they spent enough time together for Will to know that he wanted more.

Ethan was his light, his rock, the center of his universe. He wanted to be with this man for the rest of his life; for them to grow old and grey together.

He was fairly sure that Ethan wanted the same thing, even though they'd never really discussed the future. Will couldn't help wondering if maybe his boyfriend was afraid to talk about the day, months and years to come, as if he was terrified that talking about it would make it all disappear.

At some point, they would have to discuss where their relationship was heading, Will told himself with a soft sigh. He could only hope that Ethan would be prepared for the suggestion he was going to make, one that could change the course of their rest of their lives.

He wanted Ethan to move in with him, for them to walk toward the light together.

They'd mentioned it before, in passing, but it had always had the feel of "wait and see." Ethan always seemed to skitter sway from the subject, as though it was something that he didn't want to discuss because their relationship was too fresh, too new.

Will had let him do that for a while, but now he wanted to discuss the subject seriously -- and he hoped with all of his heart that when he posed the question, he would get the answer that he wanted to hear. He hoped that Ethan would agree to living together.

He wanted Ethan by his side for the rest of their lives. He wanted that light to keep shining on him, enveloping him in warmth and love for the rest of his days.

Living together was a big step, but Will was ready to take it -- and he hoped that Ethan was, too. If not, then he would try to be patient -- but he had the feeling that he was in luck, and that soon, the light of Ethan's love would fill not only his heart, but his home as well.
