In a place where no one knows what we have done

"I think they're kind of cute," said Prentiss as she watched JJ and the Agent she had been dating for awhile. "What's his name?"

Garcia frowned. "Keith...Kyle..."

"Colin," said a voice behind them "Agent Colin Marcus."

They turned to see Reid standing behind them.

"Agent Marcus."

He nodded. "It doesn't matter anyway."

Prentiss frowned. "Why not?"

He shrugged. "Because he's wrong for her. They'll never work." And with that, he turned and walked over to where Morgan was standing.

"What was all that about?" asked Prentiss as she looked over at the two men. She was still pretty new and sometimes the dynamics that were constantly changing with the team confused her.

"He's jealous."

"Jealous? Of JJ having...Oh, how long has he liked her?"

Garcia nearly told her that JJ and Spencer Reid were the most secretive on/off couple she had ever met but respected her friendship with the other agents too much.

"For a while now."

"Does she know?"

She nodded. "But a girl can only wait around so long for a guy to make his move."

Do you come
Together ever with him?
And is he dark enough?
Enough to see your light?
And do you brush your teeth before you kiss?
Do you miss my smell?
And is he bold enough to take you on?
Do you feel like you belong?
And does he drive you wild?
Or just mildly free?
What about me?

Reid watched them for a few more minutes, his mind rebelling against what he was seeing by filling it with memories of the times he had spent with JJ. The way she smiled at him when he explained things to her that she already knew, so patient and fond, the way she bit her lip when she stifled a whimper that always came when he kissed her right behind her left ear.

"You ok, Man?" asked Morgan touching his arm.

"What?"

"You look like someone just kicked your puppy."

Reid frowned. "I don't have a puppy."

Morgan laughed. "It was an expression."

He nodded as he watched her say goodbye to Colin. "I'm fine. I...I have to go."

A slow smile spread across Morgan's face as he realized what was happening. He had to give Reid credit; he never suspected that his friend was in love.

"Well...then...you should go."

Reid looked at Morgan and grinned sheepishly before jogging after JJ.

"JJ!" he called "Wait up."

She turned back to look at him. "What is it, Spence?" she asked.

"Can we talk?"

She frowned. "I'm..." she looked down at her feet "Busy."

He sighed softly. "Please, Jen."

She looked up at him; he could see the spark of anger in her eyes. "Fine."

He resisted the urge to smile before taking her hand and looking around. He did smile when he spotted a nearby broom closet. He led her inside and turned on the light.

"Is this..." she started.

He laughed "That one is on the second floor. They started locking it."

"What did you want to talk about?"

Well I know I make you cry
And I know sometimes you wanna die
But do you really feel alive without me?
If so, be free
If not, leave him for me
Before one of us has accidental babies For we are in love

"Do you love him?" he asked after trying to figure out how to put it. It came out gracelessly just as it sounded in his head.

"What the hell kind of question is that?"

"A simple one, JJ. Dammit, do you love Colin? Yes or no. It's not that hard."

She shook her head. "I really hate it when you very subtlety insult my intelligence.

"I wasn't."

"No."

"No?"

"No. I don't love Colin. I love you and you know it."

It was true, he did know it. Or at least he suspected that she still did. No matter how many times they fought and they fought a lot, she was still there for him. She always was the one constant that he could turn to.

"Then why?"

"Because it's easy. Because he's funny and he's simple and I needed that. We're just so damn complicated, you and I. We find the smallest things to fight about, we hardly see each other, and we've got so many secrets from each other." She turned away to wipe a tear from her cheek. "How can we build something on that?"

"Carefully," he said softly touching her shoulder "We go slowly. We realize that our jobs have made us into very..."

"Difficult?" she supplied.

He laughed softly. "Difficult people."

"But what if we don't work? I can't take this constant breaking up, Spence, it's killing me."

She turned slowly to look at him.

"I don't know," he said honestly "But I think we have to try because I love you so much and I can't take this. I can't stand seeing you with other guys. It's tearing me apart."

She touched his face gently. "I love you too," she said softly.

If not, leave him for me
