"Sweetheart?  You okay, you don't normally call me from work?"

"I know and I've got to be quick...but it's happened."

"It has?  What has?"

"Ecklie's demoted Catherine and they've bought a new guy in from Portland.  He was already a supervisor."

"Didn't Wendy go to Portland?"

"Yeah.  Aren't you interested?"

"It's no more that you expected, is it?"

"No, I suppose not.  But he seems like a regular guy.  About sixty I suppose...glasses, white hair...hey, that remind you of anyone?"

"No one I know of that age.  Is he gay?"

"Gay?  Why would you want to know that?"

"White haired with glasses; an authority figure.  You do have form..."

"...aw, man, you're jealous!"

"Not at all; just interested."

"I think he's married and has a load of kids...according to Archie."

"How's Catherine taking it?"

"That's he's married?"

"Don't be obtuse."

"Well, it isn't like it's a surprise."

"I blame myself."

"So you've said."

"I let her get away with murder and she, in turn, did the same to Ray...literally."

"Nothing was proved."

"No.  Are you okay about being overlooked?"

"You know I am.  I love the job, not supervising.  Perhaps now we can all get down to doing the job again now we don't have to chase Ray's tail all the time.

"That's true.  That's my fault as well..."

"...I know you persuaded him to apply.  Man, you've got a lot to answer for."

"It's no joking matter.  My failings are being exposed one at a time..."

"...I'm a failure of yours then?"

"No!  You're not.  You're the bit I got right.

"Now that is the truth.  Must go babe, got work to do with DB, that's what he wants to be called, DB Russell is..."

"Deebie?  He's called Deebie?"

"No.  D. B.  The initials."

"He's named about a four-nineteen?"

"Now you mention it, yeah, he is."

"Let's hope he's rigorous at work then."

"Was that supposed to be funny?"

"You'll be dealing with a stiff all day long?  Any better?"

"Worse."

"I'm losing my touch?"

"Depends which touch you're talking about."

"I'll never lose my touch for you...just make sure DB doesn't develop a touch for you...or we could be looking at really dead Deebie..."

The End
