When Mac told Don he needed some space, it threw Don for a loop. Don couldn't understand what was going on because as far as he knew, everything was fine. Mac went back to staying at his apartment, and Don was alone again.

Don did his best to avoid Mac as much as possible, but was professional when they had to work together. All of this was bad enough, but it being Christmas time made it worse. Don stayed depressed, but tried not to let it show.

Everybody was busy making plans for the holidays, and that was enough to get on Don's nerves. He couldn't help but resent Mac for doing this to him. When Don finished his shift Christmas Eve, he stopped in at Sullivan's for a beer before he went home.

One beer turned into 3, and then 5, and before he knew it, he was in a cab that the bartender at Sullivan's had called for him. As he finished undressing, he fell across the bed and was asleep in seconds.

The next morning, which was Christmas Day, found Don with a horrible hangover. He wished Mac were there because Mac could work wonders for a hangover. Of course, he wished Mac were there anyway.

As the day wore on, Don watched some television and made a simple meal consisting of salad and spaghetti. After he ate, he felt better and went out onto the fire escape to have a smoke. When he heard the doorbell, he wondered who could be visiting.

Don was surprised when he opened the door to find Mac standing there with his overnight bag.....

"What are you doing here, Mac?"

"I need to talk to you, Don..."

"About what? I thought we said all there was to say to each other when you left."

"Can I at least come in?"

"Sure....."

"Don, I want you to know that I was wrong for leaving and not explaining why....."

"If you've come to tell me, I'd really like to hear it....."

"I was unsure of myself when it came to us. I was afraid of a lot of things, and instead of talking to you about it, I decided to spend some time by myself trying to figure everything out."

"Did you figure it out?"

"I did, and I'm here today to tell you that I have no more doubts. This is what I want, and I want to come back if you'll have me."

Don stood there with tears in his eyes, and Mac asked why he was crying.....

"I'm crying because you just made my Christmas wish come true. I wanted you home, and now you're here....and to answer your other question...I will take you back on one condition...."

"And that is?"

"When something's bothering you, talk to me......"

"I promise....."
