I know I should be in the Christmas spirit, but I just can't bring myself to be that way. Maybe it's because with all the gifts I've seen with my name it, I know that the one thing I want can't fit under the tree. Even if he could, I doubt he'd want to.

"Come on Rick, get in the Christmas mood." I hear Nick say as he continues to string popcorn for the tree.

*

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

*

"So Warrick, what do you want for Christmas this year?" I hear Greg ask.

I cringe inside, wishing that I could answer the way I want to, but intead I reply, "Nothing really."

"You don't want anything for Christmas? Come on, there has to be something you want."

Looking across the room, I see Jim Brass standing by Catherine's fireplace, talking to Grissom. Yeah, I know what I want, but no matter what I wish, it's still not gonna happen.

*

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is...
You

*

I have been in love with Jim for far too long to even recall when it started. And this year, with him being shot, it just makes me long for him even more.

Unfortunately, I know he doesn't share my feelings. He's straight, at least I have no evidence to prove otherwise, so that puts him out of my league.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day

*

"I know what you want." Startled out of my thoughts, I look over at Nick who has a knowing smirk on his face.

"Yeah, I don't think so, Nicky," I reply, hoping that I haven't been that obvious.

"Oh, I do think so Ricky. Maybe if you've been good this year, you'll get what you want."

Ignoring him, I pick up a piece of popcorn to help with the stringing. One can always hope.

*

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby

*

"Good night guys, I'm headed home," called Jim from the doorway.

"Hey, Jim, wait up. I need to ask you something," Nick calls as he hurries over to the room.

I panic for a split second, but I know its still wishful thinking on my part. Nick wouldn't dare embarrass me like that, even if he does think he knows the truth.

*

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I don't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeers click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you

*

An hour later, and we've got the tree completely decorated. I grab my jacket, give Catherine a peck on the cheek, and wave goodnight to everyone.

Normally I stay late at Catherine's parties, but tonight I can't stand being around everyone. I just want to go home, fix me a glass of scotch, and turn in for the night.

It only takes me ten minutes to get home, and suddenly my desire to be here is gone. Who really wants to come home to an empty house on Christmas Eve?

*

Ooh baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me...

*

Closing the door behind me with a sigh, I hang my jacket in the hall closet. Grabbing the mail that I hadn't bothered to read this morning off the shelf, I sort through it as I walk into my living room.

Looking up, I stop in my tracks, mail forgotten as it flutters to the floor.

*

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is...
You

There, sitting not quite underneath my Christmas tree, is Jim Brass. I must be hallucinating, but I didn't drink anything other than eggnog, and unless someone spiked it, this shouldn't be happening.

But I must be hallucinating, because the man of my dreams is sitting there.

"Jim, w-what are you d-doing here?" I stutter, still in shock.

"Well, Nick gave me the key to your place. Seems to me that he thinks that I'm what you want for Christmas."

"Nick did this?"

"Yeah, and it was obviously a bad idea," Jim says as he stands to his feet. "Look Warrick, this was a mistake. Can we forget this?"

I can't say anything, still reeling from the fact that Jim is in my house, as my Christmas present; the only thing I've been dreaming about all year.

"Warrick, would you please say something or do something?"

"I'm so gonna kick Nick's ass," I say as I pull Jim to me and kiss him until we are both breathless.

Eyes glazed in lust, Jim looks up at me, "Merry Christmas Warrick."

Pulling him towards the bedroom, I smile, "It most certainly is."
