"Are you going to be okay with her until I get child services Nick." Sofia asked softly. Nick nodded and pulled the baby closer.

"Yeah, I'll just walk her around the lab for a bit." Sofia nodded and walked off leaving Nick with the small baby. He smiled down to the infant while gently jiggling her up and down.

"Let's go for a walk sweetie." He whispered. The baby giggled happily and clapped it's hands together. The walk was uneventful but very slowly made, it seemed every time he walked ten steps a female co-worker would stop to coo at the baby and sometimes flirt with Nick. He shuddered a bit. It had seemed like every one of those women had been sizing him up as potential husband material. It was times like these when he was glad he was gay, even if he was the only one aware of it.

He walked down the hall some more and spotted a flock of women ahead of him, he ducked into the nearest lab and sighed in relief as he watched them turn down the other hallway.

"Not that I don't value the time we spend together Stokes, but what are you doing here?" Nick turned and was greeted by a smirking David Hodges. Just his luck, he thought. Well it's better than baby crazy women.

"Me and the little sweetie here were just taking a walk." Nick held up the baby and was surprised to see Hodges' eyes soften, and his smile go gentle.

"Whose baby is it?" He asked as he stood up and took off his gloves. He walked over and bent down to examine the sweet little girl. The baby cooed at him and tried to grab the sides of his face.

"She's the daughter of the prostitute who we found dead earlier. The babysitter just dropped her off with us when we were questioning her." Nick watched as Hodges grew sad and brushed a finger against the baby's cheek.

"Poor thing." He looked up at Nick. "Does she have any family?" Nick shook his head no.

"Not any that we know of. It's likely she'll be put into the hands of family services." Hodges sighed.

"Well at least she's a baby, she's more likely to be adopted." Nick nodded holding the baby close. Hodges looked hesitant.

"Could I...um hold her?" Nick looked up surprised.

"Sure." He handed the baby over and marveled at how carefully Hodges held her. Nick watched his eyes light up at the baby's tiny laugh, and couldn't help but laugh when the baby grabbed a fist full of Hodges' hair.

"I think she likes you." Nick said. Hodges laughed a bit.

"No. She just likes my hair. Don't you?" He asked the baby rubbing their noses together. "You just like grabbing my hair. Big bad Nicky wicky doesn't have any hair does he. No no he doesn'....ow ow owwww!" Nick laughed as Hodges tried to untangle his hair from the baby's fist.

"She's a strong little bit, isn't she?" Nick nodded and reached over to help pull the hair from the baby's grasp. Nick felt a little jolt run through him at the silky feel of Hodges' hair. He ran his hand down it to smooth it from where the baby had mangled it.

Hodges shuddered a bit and cleared his throat and moved a step away from Nick. Nick couldn't help but notice the small blush that stained across the tech's cheeks. Hodges sat down on his chair and pulled the baby close but made sure she was out of range of his hair.

"So umm.. how long until she has to go?" Hodges sounded kinda sad. Nick walked over to him and shrugged. Hodges sighed.

"I always wanted a little girl." He said wistfully. Nick kneeled down in front of his chair so he could look at the baby.

"You still have time." Nick said. "You could meet the right woman and get married." Hodges snorted and ran a hand down the baby's hair.

"Maybe you could." He paused and looked at Nick. "I'm gay. You know it, I know it, hell the whole lab knows they just don't say anything. If you think it's hard for two men to adopt a baby, just think about one trying." Nick was shocked. Hodges was gay?

"Hodges."

"It's David." Nick looked at him for a long moment.

"David." He said. "I'm sorry. I didn't know." David shrugged and laughed a bit.

"It's okay. You'll just have to let me baby-sit your future children." David took both of the baby's hands into his own. "Isn't that right little miss. I can be crazy Uncle David and show them how to set stuff on fire with chemicals to drive their daddy Nick crazy. Yes I can. Yes I can." Nick smiled at David's baby talk but sobered when the words registered. Wouldn't that be nice he thought.

"Well as much as I would like that minus the fire." David laughed a bit. "I'm afraid we're in the same boat." Nick placed his hand on David's knee and looked up at him. David held the baby tighter.

"What do you mean?" Nick smiled.

"I mean what you think I mean." He said softly rubbing his thumb against David's knee.

"Oh." David said in a small voice. Nick opened his mouth to speak but his cell rang before he could continue. He stood up so he could fish it out of his pocket.

"Stokes. Oh hey Sofia. No I understand. No it's cool I don't mind. For how long. Yeah, okay I'll be there in a few minutes." He hung up the phone.

"Is it time for her to go?" David asked sadly. Nick studied him for a moment. He had never realized how attractive David was, especially those sad blue green eyes.

"Actually no. They don't have any room in child services for the next few days. I have a couple of days off coming up so I'm going to watch her." David's answering smile lit up his entire face.

"Did you hear that cutie." He said to the baby. "Maybe I'll get to see you some more."

"David?" David looked up. "Come home with me after shift." David stood.

"Why? Do you want me to help with the baby?" Nick nodded and moved closer until he was a few inches away from David.

"Yes I'd like your help, but that's not all I want." Nick's voice was a low rough grumble that shot liquid fire through David's veins.

"What else do you want?" David asked. Nick leaned in further mindful of the baby still in David's arms.

"This." Nick whispered as he brushed his lips across David's. He didn't care that they were in the middle of the lab in a glass room where anyone could see. All he could concentrate on was David's mouth moving under his own and the shy tongue that swept against his teeth asking for entrance. They kissed for a few more heated minutes until the baby wiggled and made happy noises. They broke apart and both looked down at the smiling baby.

"I guess I can't refuse that huh?" Nick nodded his head and beamed.

"Nope."

Years later a little girl with blonde hair and green eyes that looked nothing like her parents would beg anyone who would listen to tell her the story of how when her mother died she had gotten her two daddies together and they would give in, as no one could resist little Annabella Marie Hodges-Stokes when she wanted something.
