Gil was reading the news on-line when he saw the headline. He clicked on the link and read the article.

'Nick.' He called.

'Yeah?' Nick came in from the kitchen wiping his hands on a cloth; he cooking a chilli for their dinner...and several for their freezer; he was using a huge pan.

'After two hundred and forty-four years they're stopping printing the Encyclopaedia Britannica.'

'Really? I bet they're going digital.'

'They are.'

'I could rid of mine then...'

'...you'll do no such thing. You've had them for...twenty-five years. And they were a present from your Mom.'

'Twenty-five years. Is it really that long since I was sixteen?'

''Fraid so. A lot longer for me.'

'Now that's very true. But you know it still rankles me that I didn't get a car.'

'She probably didn't want you out cruising for boys...'

'...I never cruised for boys! They came to me all on their own. And girls.' He added with a smirk.

'I bet they did.' Gil smirked right back.

'I do still look at them, you know?'

'Boys?' Gil was incredulous.

'No. The encyclopaedia's...keep up.'

'You did intimate that I'm pretty old.'

'You're not that old... I bet you have to pay to get them on-line.'

'Boys?' Gil smirked again.

'If you're not careful I'll put an extra two chillies in the chilli...see how that makes you feel.'

'Very afraid. I'll spontaneously combust if you do.' Nick's chilli's were already on the very hot side of hot. 'Neither will they freeze...probably cause the freezer to defrost.'

'You think you're so funny.'

'I do. About seventy dollars.'

'Seventy bucks? What is?'

'Keep up, Nick, please.' Gil smiled very condescendingly. 'The on-line subscription to Encyclopaedia Britannica.'

Nick threw the cloth he was holding at Gil's head, scoring a hit. 'Gotcha. One extra hot chilli coming up.'

'Bring it on.' Gil called as Nick went back into the kitchen. He didn't think Nick would make it any hotter...on the other hand...

The End
