Gil Grissom was in a dilemma. After years of resisting, he'd finally given in to Sara's advances and had started a relationship with the young woman and it had seemed to be going well on the surface but Gil had found himself dissatisfied, which is how he found himself in a relationship with Greg Sanders, without ending things with Sara.

Gil sighed, he'd never pictured himself as the cheating sort. He'd always despised men who cheated on their wives and had no sympathy for them. And yet, here he was, in two separate relationships with two people who were as different as night and day. And for awhile, he'd been able to maintain the balancing act until Sara had discovered Gil and Greg kissing in the back of the locker room and the whole truth had come out and Sara had given Gil an ultimatum: He had to choose between her and Greg.

And so here he was, trying to decide between his two lovers, hoping that writing things down would help him decide. Both relationships would carry a lot of risk, especially on the professional front but Gil was willing to risk it for the right person, he just had to decide who that was.

***Personalities***

Sara was intelligent, they liked a lot of the same things, both of them were homebodies most of the time. But she was also emotional, judgemental, demanding and had a hard time letting go of things. There was also her drinking. Though she'd cut back and was still seeing her PEAP counselor, she still drank more than Gil liked and it was a major cord of dissention between them.

Greg was intelligent, he and Gil had more things in common than he and Sara did. Greg was sweet and generous, he was very funny and had never asked Gil for more than he was willing to offer. He'd always let Gil make the first move. But Greg was also impulsive, hyper and immature, though he'd grown up a great deal since he'd started working in the field.

Gil look at his list, things were looking interesting on the personality front but the scientist in him wouldn't be satisfied until he'd explored every avenue. He decided to go with sex next.

***Sex***

Sex with Sara was okay. Sara seemed to think that just because Gil was fifty, he didn't have much in the way of stamina. But still, sex with Sara could be fun and relaxing when they weren't both dead tired from work. But it also got boring, Gil had experimented a lot when he was younger and had few inhibitions. Sara on the other hand, had more sexual inhibitions than a nun and the few times Gil had brought up kinks, she'd displayed a very judgmental attitude about it.

Sex with Greg, well that was another story. Sex with Greg was wild. Greg had even fewer inhibitions than Gil and was always open to experimentation. Gil always had fun when he and Greg had sex. He could put his deepest fantasies into practice and know that Greg was only doing it to keep him around, something Sara had made clear the few times he'd gotten her to let go a little.

Gil looked at the list again, his mind was just about made up but there was one more avenue he needed to pursue; his own feelings.

***Personal Feelings***

He cared about Sara, he wasn't in love with her but he did care deeply about her. She was a good friend and they got along well together. Sara brought out his gentle side. When he was with her, he wanted to cherish her and protect her.

But he also felt stifled when he was with Sara. She only saw the man she wanted to see and that man was nothing like Gil himself. He supposed if he really tried, he could become the man Sara was convinced he was but he was fifty years old and he'd never been one to lie to himself. He couldn't be the man Sara wanted him to be, it was that simple.

Greg, well, he loved Greg. Greg helped him let go. He laughed more when he was with Greg. He could be around Greg any time and not feel the need to stifle his feelings. He could vent his anger over cases and not feel guilty. Greg saw him as he was, the good and the bad and Greg never tried to mold Gil into the person he thought he should be.

Though Sara brought out tender feelings of affection and care, with Greg, Gil always felt an overwhelming need to possess and own, dominate. Thankfully, Greg was all for that, he was a natural submissive and never complained if Gil was a little rough during sex after a bad case, hell he always asked for more. The one time he'd accidentally been rough with Sara, she'd made him leave.

Gil looked at his list, his mind was made up. He picked up the phone on his desk and dialed the familiar number. "Greg? It's Gil. No everything is fine. I've made my decision. Can I come over after shift? I'll bring some dinner from that Thai place you like so much." He smiled when he heard the guarded hope in that beloved voice, "No, I promise, you're going to like this. I'll even bring over some movies." He laughed at Greg's excited reply. "Okay, I'll see you then. Yeah. I love you too. See you later." He hung up the phone with a smile, feeling lighter than he had in years. Checking his watch, he saw that he could go over to Greg's place now without being penalized, it had been a quiet night for once. He gathered his things and walked out of his office. Sara was going to be pissed when she found out and things could get very ugly, but it could wait. Greg was waiting for him and that's all that mattered.

The End.
