The water of the Hudson River slowly ran its way down the stream, lapping at the support beams of the dock above it.

'Stupid Water.' Danny thought, kicking a stray stone into the water below him.

Danny had once loved water. As a child, he would spend hours staring at the fish in the tank that had stood in the living room. He had watched as the fish swam around, through the plastic plants. Whenever he had gone swimming, he had relished in the feeling of freedom with no one to stop him.

As he grew older, this affection for water faded away to be replaced with hatred. A college professor had once said to Danny's class, "Water is nebulous. It has no shape. You can run your hand right through it, yet it can kill you." This scared Danny. He didn't want to think of water as being able to kill. But life as a CSI opened his eyes. Water was bad, almost an omen -- Half rotted bodies floating in the river, the coldness, drownings and blood mixing with the water. It was very bad.

Danny had begun to have nightmares. The bodies, cold and loneliness with red running rivers, they had plagued him and some people began to notice, especially Mac.

Shaking his head, Danny looked back over the dock to see Mac pointing out a piece of evidence to Lindsey. He smiled. The water wasn't as cold anymore and slowly becoming a good thing once again. That was Mac's influence. He had helped Danny with his nightmares and the two had fallen in love. That night in the pool might have added to that. 'Note to self, vodka + Mac + pool Very happy Danny.' Danny, with Mac's help, had crawled through the darkness. Smiling, he looked down into the water. A fish swam past before darting back under the dock.

Today, the water was good.
