Prompt: At an edge of change Danny needed a change of scenery.

Danny had finally had enough. He’d taken his first vacation away from NY in years. He certainly didn’t regret it, not taking in the sights as he had today. As a kid he’d always dreamed of leaving the big city. And when given the chance this year he’d taken it and run. Hell given his savings Donnie and Mac were lucky he hadn’t left before this.

And now standing here looking up the stairs that were leading to this risky adventure he was on. Danny couldn’t bring himself to move though. Sunset was just a few hours away and he had to get a move on if he wanted to finish his climb of the steps and the mount before night fell. Not that it would matter in the long run because here, in this beautiful land, getting ready to climb to the mount, Danny was alone.

He’d spent so many of the last years alone and now nearing 40, Danny was at a crossroads of sorts. He found himself at the bottom, in the pits of depression, and frankly he’d been losing himself slowly. First his chances of fatherhood had been shot with Rueben’s death, and then his love of work and his academic abilities had been on the downslide. No one, not even his lover looked past his Italian Stallion/Hood-rat persona. He’d taken the first chance he could at having time away from everything and everyone, including his friends and lover.

And now the end of that time was nearing. And it was time Danny made a choice. Within days Danny could disappear from NY and from everything he knew. Starting over had never sounded so good. He could stay at the bottom and stay in the rut that he found himself in or he could move up and forward. To move up the mount was to make decisions. And Danny found himself taking that first step forward. Soon he’d have answers, soon he’d have a decision, and soon he would be free again.
