Calleigh was at the scene already, talking to Sevilla, poking around the circumference while Alexx was doing her preliminary. Paramedics and police were milling around, but no one was actually doing anything. Megan couldn't see the vic yet, just a flash of a long leg

skin on skin, a firm thigh pressing between her own, insistent hands in her hair...

behind Alexx's crouched position, as she stopped behind her.

"What've we got?"

"Caucasian female, early thirties, a jogger found her on her morning run. Apparent cause of death; broken neck, time of death approximately 3 hours ago. Lacerations and bruises on her face, breasts and thighs, defensive wounds on her wrists. I've bagged her hands, you can get samples from under her fingernails back at the lab."

"We haven't found any clothes in the immediate vicinity, but we're still not certain if the killer took them with him, or if she was killed somewhere else. She's small enough to be carried easily..." Sevilla's voice trailed off at the wave of an officer from across the field. "I'll be back."

"No-one deserves this, honey..." Alexx was saying, stroking damp red hair off a pale forehead, as Megan returned her attention to her.

violently red curls spilling over her pillows, laughter in her ear...

Not even when she saw the profile did she connect the two. Alexx stepped back, and immediately Calleigh was at her side for their own examination before the body was taken to the morgue. There really wasn't much to see, and Megan made an uncomfortable noise in the back of her throat. The woman was sprawled on her back, neck tilted up and up so much it was obvious something was wrong.

sinking her teeth into smooth skin, feeling the jugular pulsing against her tongue, hurt and anger clouding her thoughts...

Calleigh crouched down, carefully righting the head, and Megan suddenly felt the taste of blood in her mouth.

sharp nails on her scalp, pointed teeth around her ear-lobe, a haughty whisper, "you could never..." hating herself for being unable...

"Megan!" Calleigh was in her face, eyes worried, a finger suddenly in contact with her lip, and Megan jerked backwards. Calleigh held up a finger, smeared with blood. "You're bleeding, Megan..."

Backing up, away from prying eyes, blinking behind the sun glasses in the still too sharp light. "Do you mind if I go back with the body?"

"No, of course not. Eric's coming out, we'll take care of this." Hesitating, for a fraction too long, and Megan had herself under control again. "Are you alright?"

"Yes, of course."

shrill laughter ringing in her ears, naked and cold against damp sheets, hot tears on her cheeks...

Alexx was riding up front, Megan was in the back with the body, refusing to look at the body bag, knowing what was underneath the dark material, fighting against herself, a hand pressed to her mouth to stop herself from doing worse damage to her lip.

finely manicured nails against her shoulder, a drink on her table, unreadable gray eyes, and a dress that showed everything and nothing at all... "Is this seat taken?" her head shaking "no" without consulting her first...

It wasn't supposed to happen like this. It was wrong, so wrong, everything was wrong.

hating the soft sound of the bell, knowing what would happen, knowing she was weak, "Megan, so lovely to see you", hating herself...

"Megan, are you alright?" Why was everyone asking her that. She stepped out, let Alexx deal with the boys taking care of the body. Quickly fled back to her lab, hiding behind the starched blue of the lab coat. Thank God Horatio and Tim were down in the Keys on a follow-up today.

A hand roughly pulling her head back, her body straining towards something, anything, "say it!" the voice low in her ear, grating on her soul...

Long deep breaths. Staring through the lens of the microscope, blobs and swirls she knew were supposed to make sense, mean something. The voice in her ear too loud, would never go away now, no closure, unseeing eyes still laughing at her, laughing at her, fucking laughing at her.

Calleigh's heels rapping against the floor alerted her to her presence long before the woman came into view.

"I've got the samples from Alexx. I thought you were going to be there for the post?" No accusations there, just curiosity. "Anyway, here, I'm going back out there, apparently Adell found someone who saw something. We might have a crime scene!"

As Calleigh turned to walk out Megan heard her own voice. "Do you have an ID yet?"

"No, Eric's going through missing persons, but when I checked five minutes ago there was nothing."

"Her name's Leigh Harkins. She lives on Anastasia Ave. down in Coral Gables."

smiling red lips, and hand at the small of her back, "dance with me", dancing eyes at her reluctance...

"Megan? Do you know her."

"No. I don't. "

a warm hand in her own, a head against her shoulder, a body melding against her side, a familiar warmth in her belly...

"Please, just leave it for now... I know who she is, I've been to her home. Come to think of it, you're gonna find me in there."

"Megan, why didn't you tell us, if we'd known this..." And she suddenly broke off, and if Megan was in a laughing mood, she would have found the look on Calleigh's face comical, realizing that she was about to yell at a superior.

"I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner. I didn't. I'll get started on those." And she turned her back on Calleigh, acutely aware of her standing there for long moments before the tell-tale swoosh of the door opening and closing, and Megan let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.

soft lips against her own, aching bruises on her neck, sharp nails on her back, "it was lovely to see you, Megan", a closed door in her face...

Megan wasn't sure how she managed to persuade Calleigh to let her accompany her to the house. By all rights, she should have been off the case. But maybe Calleigh accepted the façade she put on.

She felt Calleigh's eyes on her from her seat beside her in the car, but she didn't break the silence. She was driving out of habit, the road familiar, hating that it elicited familiar tickles in her belly, the blood rushing in her ears.

a voice silken in her ear, "I'll expect you around eight, then", the smile audible, her face hot against the cool plastic...

She had parked and was stepping out of the car before she realized she had stopped. An unmarked car pulled up alongside and Sevilla stepped out.

"What is this I hear about you knowing the vic, Megan? You shouldn't be here, you know better."

"You know why you're here, Megan, you've got nowhere else to go...", teeth bared as the lips curled back, a satisfied smile, predatory eyes...

"Are you coming?" Calleigh's eyes were dark with worry, again, holding the heavy wooden door open, when Sevilla suddenly appeared in front of her.

"You shouldn't go in there, Megan. Let us take it."

"I... need to see it. I won't touch anything, I'll just do a walk-through. And I can tell you if anything is out of place."

"please..." her own voice sounding funny to her ears, far away, need burning inside her, hurting her, eating her alive...

"Alright," came Sevilla's answer, finally. "But be careful."

Megan nodded, it was all she could do, as the dark void behind the door drew her in.

"do come in, I've been waiting for you...", eyes almost gleaming in the dark...

There were too many familiar spots. Megan shuddered as she walked through the rooms, the presence was overwhelming her, she felt nauseous. Calleigh ever-present at her side. When Megan closed her eyes briefly at the sight of the bed, she felt she'd given away too much.

sheets cold against her back, eyes pinning her down, hands hot against her belly, "lie still, I want to look at you..."

Calleigh was walking closer, keeping an eye over her shoulder at Megan, flipping back the bed cover, starting at the sight of blood. Megan unconsciously touched the side of her neck, knowing where the faded crescent-shaped scars were.

pressing, down, hot, heavy, pain, pleasure, a metallic tang of her own blood on her tongue, lips and nails against her neck, teeth around her nipple, pressure between her legs, searing white heat behind her eyelids...

The touch of another's finger against her neck brutally threw her back to the present, and her eyes met Calleigh's for a flash too long, before she fled, pressing her back against the wall, chest heaving, eyes closed.

"Is it your blood?" Calleigh was following her relentlessly.

She was unable to form words, her lips moving helplessly, fumbling, finally, "I... don't know."

sagging back against the headboard, fingers gently massaging her scalp, easing her down, a tongue slick in her mouth, a pricking pain on the side of her neck, a warm wet trail on her skin...

"I... I can't..." and then she was turning around, fleeing the scene, running for the light outside, sunshine, safety. The polished stone steps were warm under her hands, hard, solid, and before she knew it she was crying, burying her face in her hands.

the tiles chilly against her naked back, sweat cooling on her skin, her eyes dry, her soul ravaged... blood in her mouth from tooth shaped marks on her lip...

"Come on, let me take you back..." Calleigh voice was too soft, too close, too much...

She wanted nothing more than to sink through the steps and meld with the earth beneath.

wanting nothing more than to sink through the floor and be absorbed by the blessed darkness beneath...

The morgue was sterile and cold, fitted her mood perfectly. The hour was late, no-one would be here. Slowly she pulled out the body, letting her eyes linger on the red hair, the pale skin, the familiar body.

"You can't hurt me."

"you'll come back, Megan...

"I won't. You can't hurt me anymore."

"Megan? Are you holding up?"

Calleigh. Go away.

don't come near me... go away...

"We got a match on CODUS for the epithelials from under her nails. He's got a record for sexual abuse. They're picking him up now. Let me take you home."

"In a moment... could you... wait outside?"

"but you'll follow, Megan, you always do..."

There was a moment of indecision before Calleigh turned and left the room, the silence in her wake deafening.

"You can't hurt me anymore."

"it doesn't matter, Megan..."

She pushed the body back, closed securely, pausing a moment with her hand on the light switch, before letting darkness take the room, steps determined against the floor, the door falling shut behind her with a final thud.

"you'll always come back, Megan... it's who you are..."
