Notes: I was reading a bunch of quotes today, and this one stood out. It seemed like a quote that Gil would remember and I wanted to use it in a story. So here it is.
Characters: Warrick/Grissom

It had been a long night, and although he was tired, the thought of falling asleep without Warrick curled up behind him didn't appeal to Gil Grissom. So instead, he decided to try to catch up on some reading since he had the free time.

After about an hour of reading, Gil looked at his watch, and sighed. Warrick would be home in an hour and still it wasn't soon enough. Gil laughed at his actions. He was acting like a lovesick teenager, and he couldn't help it. Warrick had made a profound impact on his life and his heart. Reaching across his desk, Gil picked up the only framed photo adorning his desk.

Looking at it, Gil couldn't help the smile that graced his face. The picture was of the two of them in Hawaii. Warrick had begged Gil to take the picture, something to capture the moment. Although Gil gave in, he didn't need a picture to remind him of that day. It was their three year anniversary, and Warrick had arranged for the both of them to have time off to go on a trip to Honolulu. Gil was surprised and touched at the gesture; even after almost three years of them being together, Warrick still managed to make him feel as though they had just began dating. Once they settled in after their plane had landed, Warrick had taken Gil sightseeing. That's when they stopped in a little photo shop to look around, which enede with them taking this horrible, yet wonderful picture. Horrible because both men were dressed in horrible Hawaiian shirts, with audacious leis adorning there necks; and it was wonderful because they the love they felt for one another was evident in the way they acted together. Even the cameraman had commented on how happy they were. And it was true, Gil was the happiest he had ever been, or thought he would be.

Placing the picture frame back in its spot on his desk, Gil settled back in his chair, lost in thought. Years ago he had heard a quote from famous agnostic Robert Green Ingersoll, "I would rather live and love where death is king than have eternal life where love is not." At the time he hadn't truly understood it, but now he did. He felt that way about Warrick. If his only way to stay with Warrick was to live in a world of death and decay, he would gladly accept it no questions asked. But as he reflected on the happiness he felt with Warrick, he knew he wouldn't have to worry about it. Life with Warrick was indeed Heaven on earth.

Glancing at his watch once again, Gil smiled; only half an hour until Warrick was home. Picking up his journal, Gil continued to read as he waited for his angel to get home.

THE END
