Sara could barely keep the smile off of her face as she walked through the lab. Greg had passed his final proficiency tonight and now, she was looking for him to tell him that Nick, Warrick and Catherine wanted to take him out for a drink since Ecklie was being a horse's ass and wouldn't let them have a quiet celebration in the office.

Sara's smile widened, the other reason she was so proud was because she'd trained Greg. He'd been her protégé, she'd taught him everything she knew about being a criminalist and he'd passed his proficiency beautifully. Everyone was proud of Greg, but no more than her.

The problem was that Greg was nowhere to be found. The only thing anyone could say was that he'd last been seen just outside of Grissom's office but nothing since. She sighed, she really didn't want to deal with Grissom right now. Things had been very uncomfortable between them since right after the lab explosion and she'd asked him to dinner, which he'd shot down. Then there came her drinking problem and subsequent DUI, if there was any spark left between them, that just about killed it. She could still see the angry and disappointed look in his eyes when he'd picked her up at the police station. Even though he'd held her hand and taken her home, she could feel whatever connection there had been fading away, and when he hadn't even responded to her offer to come inside and had just driven away, something in her died. After that, they'd avoided each other as much as possible, so she'd been thrilled when he'd asked her to take over Greg's CSI training. She liked Greg and loved working with him and training him. He was so smart and so eager to learn that it was infectious, it had saved her from the burnout she could feel coming on.

She sighed and stopped. It was no use, she couldn't find Greg anywhere. She headed for Grissom's office, hoping to find Greg there so she wouldn't have to talk to Grissom.

Walking up to Grissom's office, she was a little surprised to find that the blinds were still closed. He'd closed them so Greg wouldn't see Grissom, herself and Catherine hiding in the dark to surprise him. She knew that Grissom closed the blinds when he had a lot of work to do, but the caseload tonight had been minimal so there was no reason for the blinds to be closed, except that knowing Grissom, he just forgot. All the same, she knocked.

"Come in."

Sara frowned, Grissom's voice sounded strained like he was lifting something extremely heavy. She opened the door and poked her head in, "Gris? Are you okay?" She didn't see anything out of the ordinary, Grissom was sitting at his desk, as usual, reading a book. He looked a little surprised, but at least he didn't give her that tired, irritated look that had so recently been tossed her way. In fact, he smiled slightly.

"I'm fine Sara. I was just picking something up off of the floor." His left hand slid under his desk and he shifted in his seat and looked at her again, "What's going on?"

Sara smiled, happy that he wasn't being coldly polite or curt with her as he'd been doing recently. "I'm looking for Greg. Cath, Warrick, Nick and I are wanting to take him out for a celebratory drink since Ecklie's being such a pain. But I can't find him and everyone says that he was last seen with you."

Grissom frowned for a second and his hand disappeared underneath the desk again. "He came in to ask me something about the Sherlock case and then he left and I haven't seen him since."

Sara nodded but frowned because she realized that Grissom's hand was still under the desk. "Grissom? Are you sure you're okay?"

He smiled, though it looked a little strained, "I'm fine, Sara. If I see Greg before you do, I'll tell him that you're looking for him." With that, he returned to reading his book, a clear dismissal.

Sara sighed, it was moments like this that she wished that the officer had arrested her for DUI, that way she wouldn't have to deal with seeing Grissom's disappointment in her every day. She turned and walked out of the office

If Sara had stayed in the office, she would've heard Grissom let out a long, low, growl and seen both hands disappeared underneath the desk for several minutes before he flopped back into his chair with a sigh of contentment. He smiled and gently ran his hands over the head of the man kneeling underneath his desk.

"Very good, my pet. Another test you've passed admirably tonight."

Greg preened slightly at the compliment and smiled. "Thank you Master."
