As Catherine lounges on the blanket she brought to the annual Lake Mead July 4th Fireworks display, she is startled by a familiar voice, "Hey Catherine how are you doing?"

"Oh hi Sophia. Sorry I jumped, I didn't hear you coming... I must have been drifting off," Catherine admits sheepishly.

"Oh that's okay... Are you here alone?"

"Not really my daughter Lindsey came with me but as usual she saw some friends of hers and wanted to watch the fireworks with them...you know how that goes..."

"Yeah I do, I was the same way never wanting to be seen with my parents... God forbid they ever offer to drive me to school in the family stationwagon."

Catherine had to laugh at Sophia's last statement, "God I know what you mean, when I was Lindsey's age if my mom drove me I made sure she dropped me off at least 2 blocks away from the school... Oh please take a seat."

As Sophia sat down Native American style next to Catherine she noticed something in the strawberry blonde's eyes that she hadn't noticed before; it was a sexy sweetness, 'Wow this woman is really lovely...I've probably been to busy to notice.'

Unkown to Sophia, Catherine's mind was on the very same subject 'Damn she is hot, those hazel eyes are just beautiful...I guess I've been working too much to notice.'

As the fireworks started the two women were as mesmerized as the rest of the holiday crowd by the beautiful colors and patterns the fireworks were creating high above, every once in awhile however they would look over at each other and smile.

About halfway through the display Catherine felt something rubbing her hand and was pleasantly surprised to see it was Sofia's hand. As Catherine looked at Sofia the blonde quickly moved her hand and moved her attention back to the fireworks display.

Catherine inched closer to the detective, leaving no space between her and Sofia. She softly took Sophia's hand in hers before whispering, "It's okay Sophia I don't mind as a matter of fact I was thinking of doing that myself."

Sophia turned away shyly with embarrassment and said to Catherine, "I hope you don't think I am being too forward, but looking at you tonight is like seeing you for the first time. Oh, I know we see each other from time to tine because of the work we do, but it isn't the same... Tonight I feel I am finally seeing the real you the woman behind the tough investigator, and to tell you the truth I really like this person."

Catherine was taken by surprise at the sweet honesty of Sophia's words and struggled to speak without tearing up, "Sophia that is the sweetest thing anyone has said to me in a long time," she put her arms around Sophia and kissed her lightly on the lips, which almost immediately turned into a passionate kiss with unspoken words of love and admiration.

"Catherine that was amazing," said a still surprised Sophia.

"Sophia there is more where that came from," Catherine said as she swiftly moved to sitting to right in Sophia's lap, the two of them watched the rest of the fireworks display, cuddling each other, both hoping this would be the first of many holidays together.
