"And now, ladies, gents and fellow CSIs, please stand up and gather round the dance floor as the sickeningly happy couple take their first dance as husband and husband," Warrick said, a cheeky smile plastered on his face.

Greg jumped up and down on the spot and grinned as his new husband (God, he would never get tired of that) removed the jacket of his tux and led him by the hand to the centre of the dance floor.

"Well, we certainly chose the best person to be our best man," Greg sighed happily.

Nick's arms slid around his waist and Greg's arms came up to circle his neck, pulling Nick as close as was physically possible. Nick nuzzled Greg's cheek, revelling in his softness and warmth.

"Yep, couldn't have chosen any better."

The lighting in the venue dimmed as they spoke and Warrick gave the DJ a signal. The song they had chosen as their first dance, without hesitation on either part, began to float through the air. Catherine's eyes immediately clouded with tears and Warrick walked back beside her and placed an arm around her shoulder as Grissom did the same to Sara. Brass smiled and even Ecklie looked as if he was happy. But Warrick thought it could have just been gas.

As they watched the couple gently swaying on the dance floor, a voice broke through the gentle instrumental opening.

"And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now."

As the music played, they became lost in thought, each thinking what the song they had chosen stood for to them.

"And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight."

The most terrifying thought of all was how close they had come to losing each other, and how much they worried that they still might. It meant that they lived moment to moment. Always taking the time to say 'I love you' and making sure they always had a goodbye kiss before they parted.

All it would take is one stray bullet, a mad man with a knife still at a scene, one car returning to a hit and run . . . so many things each day that could take one of them away.

"And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am."

Being broken . . . that had happened before. Nick remembered being buried alive, Nigel Crane and how Greg had put him back together after each. Greg remembered the explosion then Demetrius James and what Nick had done to bring him back from the brink each time. They had hidden from the world, turning to each other for everything they needed.

Both couldn't help thinking that they wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for each other.

Greg dropped his head to Nick's shoulder and sang the words softly into Nick's ear. The past was gone for both of them and now they had all they needed.

"And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything seems like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know
you're alive"

All the times they had refused to cry when they needed it, only to get home and collapse into each other's arms, sobbing for all they were worth, knowing the person they were clinging to was the only one who understood, the only one who could make it better.

All the times they had told everyone they were ok when that was far from the truth, but they couldn't hide the truth when they stared into the eyes of the person who loved them more than life itself.

"And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am"

As the song finished, Greg looked up into Nick's eyes, seeing them moist with unshed tears. He lifted his hands to cup Nick's cheeks and smiled before leaning forward and placing a kiss on his lips to applause from the surrounding crowd.

They both knew exactly who the other was. Their hopes and fears, how to read them, how to make them smile, how to make them scream with pleasure, what small gestures and words meant, and that was all they cared about in that moment.

If they knew each other, loved each other, cared about each other, what else really mattered?

A/N: In case you don't know, the song is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.
