Tracing his fingers along the scar on Nick's lower back Greg wonders how he got that scar. And not just that one, there's the one on his knee, or the small, barely visible scarring on his right thigh. Greg's fingers trail down to Nick's thigh, caressing it gently, careful not to wake Nick. He wants to learn the stories behind them, whether Nick fell off his bike as a kid or got into a fight at school, it doesn't matter, he just wants to know.

Like Nick knows all about his scars, having spent hours touching, kissing all of Greg's scars while listening to Greg explain each and everyone of those little marks. Greg smiles as he remembers those moments, moments that made him feel so close and connected to Nick. Seeing the love in Nick's eyes and hearing the soft laughter against his skin at some of Greg's stories.

Greg sighs when Nick shifts, moving away from him. Nick doesn't want him to touch his scars, doesn't want to share the stories behind them and even now, in his sleep, he's shutting Greg out. If getting to know a person is getting to know all their flaws, all their scars, then maybe he doesn't really know Nick.

And maybe every one of Greg's scars involved enduring a fairly large amount of pain at the time. But all that pain doesn't even come close to the hurt caused by the thought of not knowing the one person that knows him better than his own mother.

There's time though, Nick's not going anywhere, and he won't push, won't make Nick feel like he has to say or do anything if he doesn't want to. He can wait, even if it takes forever for Nick to be able to open up completely. Greg smiles, realizing that any pain, any of his insecurities are bearable because of believing in that one word. Forever.
