Gil smiled as he looked over at his sleeping boyfriend.

Greg was curled up on the couch, under the afghan that Gil had gently spread over him, Aghra lying on top of the cover beside him, just as asleep as he was.

It did his heart good to see Greg so calm and relaxed. And he was sure that the puppy was a part of that relaxation; Greg had seemed much less nervous and jumpy now that Aghra was a part of his life. He enjoyed taking the little dog out for walks; he wasn't nervous about leaving the house now.

Gil knew that Greg would probably always be more cautious than most people when he was out by himself, but that was only to be expected.

Still, he had come a long way after all that had happened.

Greg had been through a terrible experience, and he had survived it. He'd gone back to work, and that was more than some people would have been able to manage.

Gil was sure that having Aghra around had been a big help. The puppy seemed to bring Greg out of himself; there were times when Gil was sure that his boyfriend thought more of his pet than he did of anyone else, including him. Though he would never say that to Greg, of course.

He couldn't be happier that Greg and Aghra had taken to each other so well. It was amazing how an animal could help a person heal when they most needed to.

Why was it that animals seemed to be able to heal people so well, help them on to recovery? Gil didn't know, but he was grateful that Aghra could do so.

He'd known from the moment he'd first seen the puppy that she was the one for Greg. There had just been something about that little face looking at him, almost smiling, her tongue hanging out and tail wagging in welcome, that had drawn him to the little dog.

And he'd known that Greg would love her. It had just been one of those intuitive feelings, the knowledge that this puppy and his boyfriend would bond immediately.

He'd definitely been right about that, Gil thought with a soft smile.

There was something relaxing about standing here and watching his Greg and Aghra sleep, something that warmed his heart and made him feel secure.

Greg obviously felt safe and secure, he told himself, his smile growing wider. And why shouldn't he? Aghra was right there by his side, and he had a loving boyfriend and a home where he could feel safe. He was healing, and though it was taking some time, Gil knew that he was doing well.

Turning away from the sight before his eyes, he headed towards the kitchen. It was time to make dinner for the two of them; he could wake Greg up when it was ready.

He felt more at peace tonight than he had in quite a while.
