Summary: Don finds a way to be with Adam....

Don kept thinking about Adam, and how he was doing. It had been 2 days since Adam had to go back to Arizona, and Don was anxious to hear from him. When Adam had gotten the emergency phone call about his father, he'd been in a blind panic.

Don had done his best to calm him down, even going so far as to try and get a few days off so he could go to Arizona, but it wasn't possible. Don put a nervous, anxious Adam on the plane with promises of his undying love, making Adam promise to call him.

Don kept trying to find a way to get some time off because he kept thinking of Adam and the shit Adam's brothers must be giving him. Adam had told him how they treated him, and he didn't like the pictures it left in his mind. Just about the time Don was about to give up, one of the guys in his squad offered to swap his days off for some Rangers tickets. Don didn't think twice. He gave the guy his tickets, and made reservations for Arizona.

When Don landed in Phoenix, he got his bag and rented a car. As he pulled up in front of Adam's childhood home, he could understand why Adam ran as far as he could away from here. Don had started up the sidewalk when one of Adam's brothers stepped out in Don's way.

"Just where the hell do you think you're goin'?"

"I'm going inside to see Adam."

"What do ya want with my fag brother?"

"That's my business!"

"Look, boys, we got us a wise-ass here."

"Dude, that's the fag cop that Adam's living with in New York."

"So....."

"But, dude, he's still a cop!"

Don side-stepped the brothers and made his way inside. On his way up the stairs, he heard Adam talking to their answering machine back home, and it broke his heart to hear the tears in Adam's voice. It hit Don just how hard Adam had had it the past few days, and he was glad he was here.

"Baby....."

Adam turned and launched himself at the familiar voice coming from behind him.

"Donnie!!! You came!" Adam smothered Don with kisses.

"Yes, baby, it really is me. Are you okay?"

"I'm a hell of a lot better now since you're here!"

Don held Adam tightly because just as quickly as Adam was excited, he was crying as if  his heart was breaking. Don knew it was more than just Adam being glad he was here, it was the culmination of all the shit Adam had to endure by himself in the last few days. He held Adam a little tighter, and let him cry it out....

The End
