The air conditioner in the bar is broken and the room feels like a blast furnace, but after a long day processing in Brooklyn, all of them are too tired and too lazy to even think about making the attempt to move anywhere else, so they sit near an open window and put up with it. Stella makes them order mojitos, even though Danny tells her it's a girly drink and Mac asks, sounding like he already knows the answer, if he can't just have a beer instead. Stella ignores them and sets down glasses covered in patches of frost, and Danny watches the impressions his fingers leave in the white when he picks it up to drink.

Later, after he and Mac make their excuses and leave her sitting in the bar with Hawkes, arguing about Dario Argento, Danny's throat feels like ice, and he can still taste crushed mint on his lips. The sky over Brooklyn Heights is strange and green, the air shimmering and sultry around them, and three blocks away, Mac pulls him into the shadow of a doorway and kisses him. He tastes like mint, like cool green frost, and he still tastes that way when they're in the bedroom together, when Danny kisses him again and they undress each other in the dark.

Hot air currents tease at Danny's skin and sweat keeps running down his body, and the cold sharp taste of Mac's tongue is both a relief and a shock every time their lips meet.
