Nick grabbed Greg roughly by the chin and brought their lips together, crushing, frantic.

His free hand scrabbled at the dark blue work shirt, no time to undo buttons. He brought his other hand down and tore at the edges of the shirt, the buttons flying off in every direction. He explored the cool skin of his chest, trying to find the right spot as Greg stared at him through glazing eyes.

It was inevitable. He'd always known it, had felt it in his gut that this day would come. Ever since Greg had made the transition from the lab to the field, working alongside Nick night after night, he'd waited for this moment to happen, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

"Breathe, you Goddam son of a bitch" he sobbed as he brought their lips together again, breathing precious oxygen into Greg's lungs. "Just fucking breathe…." He brought his hands to Greg's chest again and continued CPR, as crimson blood soaked the white latex gloves, the bullet wound just above his right nipple like a dark eye watching him. "Please Greg, don't leave me. I love you so much, I can‘t do this without you."

Greg's eyes flickered, and he gasped.

~~~
Nick's world was warped by flashing lights and sirens. He watched the paramedics load Greg into the waiting ambulance, as Brass placed an uneasy hand on Nick's shoulder to steady him. "Kid should be dead." He shook his head disbelievingly. "He sure hung on for something."
