Summary: One love lost with another possibly gained.

It was two really big chapters into his life story in Vegas and he was feeling the pain and agony of growth. He had come to the city for an escape all those years ago. For him it was a new job, new life, and maybe a new love affair or two. *Ahhh the fever of youth* Nick thought to himself. His new life certainly hadn’t turned out the way he’d planned. With ten years in as a CSI he was feeling his age. He’d approached his limit it seemed. He’d been stalked, buried, tortured, and that was just the shit that had happened to his mind and body directly. There’d been those moments of agony with Warrick and his addiction, Sara and her past, Griss and his hearing and the list went on and on.

Now here he was facing a new age, a new decade, and a whole new set of problems. It wasn’t the being in charge more that got to him. It wasn’t the loss of his lover off and on of ten years. He’d had to deal with the possibility of losing Warrick in the field long ago, even before that damn box. And while the Tina thing hadn’t been a good thing for their friendship or Nick’s sanity it had worked out in the end. They’d had a few years that were so damn wonderful that not even the could have Getta case had hurt them. Or so they had thought. They had had no way of knowing just how far up the ladder the corruption went. And that lack of knowledge or foresight had led to Warrick’s death, or so Nick had to make himself think to just make it through the day.

Well it was what he’d needed for awhile there but now he had something new, something in the works that had so much potential, that it had Nick smiling again. When Warrick died he couldn’t blame anyone or anything but fate and that still hurt. But with the new day and age had come a new face. One man that was just as worn and battered as he had become over the years. Even though the other man knew his pain and of the uncontrollable situations and harsh consequences, he was a breath of fresh air.  The new man in his life had Nick breathing in his scent as if he needed it to live. He needed Langston not just as the air but as a new life and hopefully a longer love than the last couple of others.

Originally with Warrick it had just been about the release, the pure fun of having sex with someone that knew everything about him. *Well almost everything* Nick thinks with a sigh. He had never really told Warrick he loved him. He had hoped that Warrick knew, really he did. It just hadn’t come up, in their open yet intimate relationship. But Nick knew he couldn’t chance it again, he’d been honest with Langston from the start. Told him just how sexy and intelligent he was, and how much that turned him on. Nick was determined to never let a day go by without hugging the other man and expressing just how much he’d come to love him. It had surprised Langston at first but he’d come to accept that as just another of his younger lover’s quirks. Just that in itself told Nick how his lover felt about him. He’d finally found a man that despite all of his flaws accepted him for who he was. It made him so glad that they’d taken a chance at building something so new to them both but hopefully would be so great.

It had been after a rough case that had Nick breaking apart at every seam. And even as preoccupied as Langston could be he had noticed. He had asked Nick to breakfast that morning and every breakfast after that as well. Both of them had their heavy and deep moments where they wallowed or let the darkness get to close but from the very start Langston was set apart from all the rest of the men and women in the world. He had made Nick laugh through his tears and depression. He had connected with everything that Nick had gone through. Langston had his own set of pain and hurt but Nick likes to think he broke through that wall, that stiff upper lip of sheer stubbornness and. He likes to think they saved each other.
