Nick and Greg had only been together for 8 months when they broke it off. What was strange was it was
Greg's idea, not Nicks. Nick had been very upset, especially since that the only man he had let into his life had left him. The split however had been on very good terms and each had carried on just as before. At least that's what Greg thought.
Things between the two had become complicated when Greg started dating Xander Lefler.
Xander Lefler was a day-shift lab tech and a snotty brat in Nick's eyes. He was of average looks; maybe even a hint of maliciousness could be seen in the glint of his eyes. What Nick hated most about him was that he seemed to be his replacement. No one could replace him. No one.
~
Nick was heading into the DNA lab to hand some evidence over to Greg for processing when he saw the one person he couldn't deal with right now, especially when he leant in and gave Greg a quick kiss whilst no one was looking. But he carried on to lab trying to maintain some of his dignity.
"Hey G." he said with a smile. "Xander." said with a serious sullen expression and tone. Nick instantly turned back to Greg. "Need these swabs processed and the DNA from this blood amplified and graphed."
"Uh yea sure just set 'em down and I'll get right on them."
"See you later, Greg"
"Yeah. Bye Xander." Greg said while Nick continued to glare until Xander had left the room. "So, how are holding up?"
"Huh, oh I'm fine. I found some of your shirts and a few cds at my place you can come get them whenever. Anyway how are you and Xander getting on?"
"Good, it'll be 3months on Saturday. He's a really nice guy."
"Good, look I gotta go." Nick said quickly, but before Greg had time to register the comment Nick was gone.
*Nice one Greg, couldn't have made that anymore awkward than it had to be!*
~
Nick had left, but he hadn't gone that far. Just outside Hodges lab in fact. Unfortunately yet again the infamous Xander was in there too.
*what is it with this guy! He's not good looking, funny, or even that smart but everyone seems to like him even Hodges! Wait a second is he flirting with Hodges? Come on Nick be serious this is the jealous ex-boyfriend bit. I don't do the jealous boyfriend bit!*
Except he did. Nick gets very jealous, very quickly, even if he didn't realise it.
~
On Friday night Nick was wallowing in self-pity as he sat at the bar of one of the top nightclubs on the strip. Nothing except thoughts of Greg to comfort him while he drank shots of scotch, lucky for him he didn't get fuzzy drunk. He was either sober or black out drunk.
This was a good thing tonight because when he turned round he saw Xander, only Xander wasn't alone. And his date wasn't Greg. It was Hodges. By the looks of it Hodges was trying to perform a tonsillectomy with his mouth, while Xander happily felt up his ass.
Now Nick's never been one for violence, but this was about honour and Nick definitely stood for honour, especially when it came down to Greg. Without thinking he was already tapping 'the asshole' as he dubbed him, on the shoulder.
"Oh, Hey Nick! What a sur...."
SMACK
Nicks fist collided with his face.
"If you ever EVER hurt Greg or tell him about this I will kill you! Got it?"
Xander could only nod repeatedly until Nick left.
~
Nick woke up to the loud banging of someone at his front door. He quickly relinquished his hold of Greg's former pillow and pulled on a pair of jeans.
"Coming! Greg! I... uh what are you doing here?" looking thoroughly perplexed as to why Greg would turn up at nine o'clock in the morning.
"What the fuck do you think you're playing at?!" Greg screamed.
"What? Greg I have no idea what you're talking about"
"Yeah right, cut the bullshit and tell me why you gave Xander the shiner."
"Oh!"
"Oh. Oh! That's it! He looks like a fucking racoon and all you can say is OH! I can't deal with a jealous ex Nick. Now you tell me why you did it. NOW!"
"I'm not jealous! I had every right to hit him."
"WHY?!"
"Because. Because he's been seeing Hodges behind your back!" Nick saw the tears and anger well up behind Gregs beautiful brown eyes.
"You're lying!"
"No I'm not I saw them last night at 'The Green Room' with his tongue down Hodges' throat and hands pretty much everywhere, I just couldn't handle the fact that this guy was going to hurt you. I snapped okay!"
"YOU'RE LYING!"
"I'm sorry G, but it's the truth."
Greg ran down Nick's porch and over the lawn trying to get away as quickly as he could.
~
The next day was incredibly awkward for Nick; people were whispering about his fight with Xander and Greg refused to even look at him. And that was painful.
~
It was raining Nicked headed out to the parking lot to find Greg sitting on the kerb with his face buried in his knees and tears seeping through his fingers. He instantly dropped to his knees next to the young lab tech to try to calm him.
"G? You're soaked. What's wrong?"
"You were right, you were right about everything! He's been sleeping with Hodges for 2 months. He was with me a month before he got bored. Just one month and he's fucking Hodges!" Greg had given up trying to hide his tears mid-sentence. Nick couldn't help but feel sorry for Greg.
"I'm so sorry he hurt you Greg. I am so sorry. How'd you find out?" He had to ask, mainly because; if it included public humiliation Xander was as good as dead.
"He forgot to pick me up earlier and I saw him in his car, in the parking lot. But he wasn't alone. He was making out with Hodges in the back seat. I must be a terrible boyfriend if he'd rather be with *him*". The tears had returned and Nick pulled Greg into his arms.
"No you're not. You are a beautiful, loving, caring person with a huge heart and any guy or girl would be lucky to have you. Trust me I know!" Nick kissed the top of the damp spikes and looked into Greg's eyes. "I miss you." Greg only smiled and leant closer until his lips met Nick's.
"Me too." Greg sniffed through the rain.
"Hey, if you need me to do anything, I'm just a phone call away." And nick got up to leave.
"Nick?" Greg called.
"Yeah Greg?"
"Would you take me home?" Nick nodded and Greg followed him to his Tahoe.
"Sure. Where's your new apartment?"
"I said take me home not to my apartment."
Nick didn't need to question him he knew exactly what he meant and he smiled.
