Challenge: 100 Drabbles – Horatio Caine/Timothy Speedle

I hold them as they cry. I hold their hand as they claim their loved ones. I look them in the eye and tell them that Justice will be served.

I watch as criminals walk because of a technicality. I watch my team look defeated as their evidence is questioned. But I tell them Justice will be served.

Anger boils in me as Clavo Cruz walks away. He murdered a young girl and the justice system let him walk away. I could feel Speed growling next to me: he questioned what we do and why we do it. I didn’t want to admit to him that I was asking the same question.

Instead I point out the parents and tell him that’s why we do it.

Later he turned and looked at me, brown eyes dark and serious. “Sometimes, Horatio, justice, isn’t enough.”
