Gregory looked at the nurse in frustration. "Why were these tests ran?"

"Because we had orders to run them," she responded for the tenth time.

"Whose orders?" He looked down at the chart, staring at the test orders.

"It came from you," the nurse sighed. "Don't even ask the next question; we've been through this five times and I have places to be."

"Well I'm sorry you're missing Oprah, but I'm still trying to figure out how my patient ended up with tests I didn't order." House glared at her.

She huffed and glared back. "Why don't you ask Dr. Keiths?"

Gregory looked up to see Dr. Keiths smiling pretty to one of the interns. And on that principle alone he hated him. House waited until Keiths made his way to the nurses' station. "Dr. Keiths."

"Ah finally, Dr. House, can I call you Gregory? It's finally good to meet you," Keiths greeted. "I was wondering how long before I actually got to work with the prestige Gregory House."

House just eyed him. "Flattery won't get you into my pants."

The doctor tilted his head slightly and looked at him. "I'm sorry?"

"I know I'm good, and can see why someone would want to be me, but really Dr. Keiths no one's going to believe you're me if you are so nice." Gregory tossed the file next to him.
"What?" Keiths shook his head.

"Those test you ordered for my patient," House pointed out.

"Oh yes, I felt they needed to be ran, the diagnosis on the patient is tricky..."

"No duh, really? Is that why he's in the hospital, agonizing in pain and ruining my golf game?" He leaned against the counter.

Keiths frowned. "His charts indicated a high elevated..."

"Well there's a shock, could be the reason I ran those tests two days ago," he smirked. "And now you can explain to Cuddy why the over rated expensive as hell test that was useless was run twice."

"Look, Gregory..."

House just looked at him. "There are few people in this world who get to call me Gregory. You are not one of them."

"I was doing what was in the best interest of the patient." Keiths stood firm.

House rolled his eyes. "Had nothing to do with your study on steroid therapy?" Gregory smirked.

"Well, Dr. House, if you were around more, maybe I wouldn't have to treat your patients." He growled slightly. "If you're going to stay in this game, you need to keep up the pace with the big boys."

House rolled his eyes as he shifted from the counter and walked around the desk leaning heavily against his cane. "I'm sorry my pace is a bit slower these days." He tapped his leg with the cane before heading off, smirking at Dr. Keiths eyes went wide in shock.

"So explain to me why I'm not in Miami getting a tan right now?" House asked.

'Because you're a stubborn asshole who wants to torment everyone who works at the hospital,' Horatio replied laughing.

"New doctor today." He leaned back in his office chair. "Told me to pick up the pace and play with the big boys."

'Did you beat him up with your cane?'

"Was tempted, but..."

'You know my offer still stands.' He could here the sincerity in Horatio's voice.

"I'm not going to cave to some sniveling wanna be doctor. He was trying to snatch my patient for his research." House snorted. "He's a half wit and I know nurses with more smarts than him. Hell, remember that candy striper?"

'The one who could count but not write it down?' Horatio laughed. 'That's cruel...'

"To her or the doctor?"

'How are you doing Gregory?' Caine asked. 'Honestly?'

Gregory downed two pain pills. "Fine."

'I so believe you.' House knew by Horatio's tone he wasn't happy.

"Don't lecture me, Caine," he growled into the phone.

'Gregory House, I will lecture you if I damn well feel like it,' Horatio snapped back then paused. 'Oh my God that sounded like my mother.' House was laughing too hard to actually answer back. 'Damn you're going to hold that against me for years to come.'

"When you least expect it, this will come and haunt you." Gregory grinned and hung up the phone.

Horatio hung up the phone and resisted the urge to slam his head against the desk. "H?"

He looked up and smiled. "Hey Speed what do you have on the Erickson case?"

"Father is guilty as sin." He smirked. "They're bringing him in as we speak."

Horatio stood up from his desk, he was still getting used to being the boss. "Well let's go see what he has to say, shall we?"

Speed gave him a bright smile before heading back out the door. Now all he had to do was figure out what to do with this crush he suddenly developed for his co-worker. 'Oh I don't know, ask him out and fuck him into the mattress.' Caine bit back a groan, great now his inner voice was starting to sound like House. This wasn't good, and he knew, just knew, that Greg was laughing his ass off in New Jersey.

"You coming, H?" Speed turned, frowning slightly.

'Not a word, House.' He smiled. "Right behind you." Tim turned and headed down the stairs. Horatio pinched the bridge of his nose and took a few calming breathes before following.
