Summary: Even if he did mess around a bit and wasn't as serious as other scientist he still was one. He had his theories and like any scientist, he didn't like it when those theories were proved wrong through experimentation.

Greg thinks its funny. He's not sure why he thinks it's funny, but to him it is. No one else would think it was funny and he knows this without even having to test out that theory. Other people would look at him weirdly for think it was funny and maybe that should bother him some, but it doesn't. In fact he's perfectly happy knowing something that they don't.

They all see Nick and think he's some sort of Texas gentleman and they'd be right... for the most part. Greg can still clearly remember the first time they went out. Greg knew it was a date and Nick knew it was a date, but neither had acknowledged it as such. Nick had opened doors and pulled out chairs and if Greg hadn't been so giddy at the fact that he was on a date with Nick Stokes, the hottest guy he'd ever seen up close, he would have smacked him. Hard.

But he let it happen. Let Nick play at being the manly man all the while smiling coyly in his direction. He hadn't known then, but he'd figured it out. All that southern charm, the perfect manners and the smooth attitude. The whole ‘most likely to settle down and start a family' air that Nick fermented from his pores... it was all unbelievably true.

Part of Greg had thought it was just an act. Something to hide some deep dark fetishes and disturbing behavioral problems. And honestly Greg thought he could have dealt with that better. Because Greg had never dated someone who was so horribly and wonderfully vanilla and cliché. It had just never been his type.

At the end of the date he was almost certain that he was going to get lucky. Almost certain that Nick was just playing and he wasn't sure if he could drop the whole attitude. So when Nick and walked him to his door, and boy that was just way too cliché to even think about, Greg smiled his best come hither smile and said,

‘You wanna come in.'

Nick had looked confused, brow furrowing almost adorably and he opened his mouth to talk, but then closed it again. He leaned down, soft lips brushing against Greg's own and then pulled back.

‘Not on the first date, Greggo.'

It puzzled Greg because he remembered Nick and the hooker incident. He'd probably dealt with it like a petulant child... no he definitely dealt with it like a petulant child. He pouted and then said ‘Yeah, whatever' and hurried into his apartment.

The next day at the lab, Nick came up to him and apologized. After having some time to reflect, something Greg didn't always like, he sighed at Nick's apology.

‘What are you apologizing for?'

‘Um... whatever it is I did to make you upset.'

Typical guy answer really and Greg sighed again.

‘It's my thing. You don't have anything to be sorry for.'

‘Oh good, because I thought we had a good time.'

‘We did.'

‘So what bugged you?'

‘Nothing.'

Because deep down Greg was a scientist. He didn't go to all those years of schooling for nothing. Even if he did mess around a bit and wasn't as serious as other scientist he still was one. He had his theories and like any scientist, he didn't like it when those theories were proved wrong through experimentation.

He thought Nick would have jumped on the chance to have sex with him, not because he was arrogant and thought that he was the shit, but because any guy would jump at the chance for sex. Any guy would not, however, turn down sex because it was only the first date.

Greg had been so sure that Nick's good ole' boy attitude, the chivalry and the gentlemen-ness, had just been Nick's tried and true method to getting woman to fall helplessly at his feet. Manipulative, yes. Smooth, of course. True, not so much.

Nick was that. It wasn't an act. Nick liked to spend Sundays curled up in bed or on the couch watching old movies. Sex could be involved, but it wasn't necessary. He liked big breakfasts when it was time for breakfast and quite evenings, or in their case afternoons, at home just relaxing.

He liked to hold Greg's hand in the movie theater and his idea of a relationship was a bit more romantic than even a girl's notion. He was like vanilla incarnate. The poster boy for manners and proper dating etiquette. Greg sometimes felt a little uncouth around him.

Because Greg was young and most of the relationships he'd been in were with people who liked to do wild and crazy stuff. Sure he talked a big game and some of the time it wasn't true, but what twenty something year old hadn't experimented with liquid latex and light bondage. Greg didn't know any and he'd been a geek for most of his life.

Nick frowned when the subject was even broached. He didn't go in for that kind of stuff. Handcuffs and sex games just weren't his thing and when Greg had tried to talk him into a sweaty version of cops and robbers he'd answered the same way he always answered.

‘What's wrong with it when we're just Nick and Greg?'

And Greg would have to honestly answer that there was nothing wrong with it when it was just Nick and Greg because Greg loved that too. He just loved being with Nick, but he thought Nick might get bored.

A year or so later and Nick wasn't bored. Nick didn't get bored with plain old lazy sex after coming home from a long day of work. It was rare that Greg could talk him into something a little more adventurous, but it happened. Nick never complained afterwards, but Greg could tell that the only reason he'd tried it was because Greg wanted to.

They'd down the whole public sex thing. Nick seemed to have a thing for them and the back seat of his truck. Of course the most adventurous Nick got was jacking off for him in the bathroom of the crime lab. Greg hadn't been lying when he said it would be Nick's turn when they got home, but Greg knew Nick well enough to know there probably wasn't going to be anything kinky involved.

"Shit... Nick..."

Nick's hands were on his hips and he was thrusting slowly, almost lazily and his eyes were opened wide and they were slightly glazed. Most of his features were slack, his mouth hanging open as he panted for breath. His lips were wet and kiss swollen and red and he always looks so lost in the feeling when they have sex. Greg's never been with anyone that focuses so much on everything.

But that's Nick. He's attentive and caring and Greg loves him for it. He doesn't do dirty talk, most of the time anyway, but then he doesn't need to. It's all in the moans and the groans and the eyes. Nick can't hide anything he's feeling because they come through in those dark eyes of his and Greg always knows where he stands with Nick just by looking in his eyes.

It's all in the kisses he places on every available surface of Greg's skin while he pushes into Greg, cock brushing against Greg's prostate every so often that it makes Greg want to scream. Nick's good at making it last, in fact it's his favorite thing to make it last as long as humanly possible.

‘I like being inside of you.' Nick had whispered once when Greg had asked in a scrambled post coital way why Nick liked to torture him.

It was said in that tone where you could tell Nick was blushing. Like it was some sort of big secret that only Nick knew. Greg had just smiled and kissed him softly before going to sleep.

There was something to it though. Nick wanted to make it last. Every thrust precious, every kiss needed to last an eternity. The whole feel of rough hands on smooth skin, Nick needed it to last for as long as possible. Greg knew his reasons why, but Nick's were slightly different.

"Greg..."

It was said softly, but Greg had been with Nick long enough to know that it meant Nick was close. His hands tightened just a little on Greg's hips, his thrusts a little stronger, a little deeper, a little faster, a little harder. Nick only let go when he didn't have any control over it. When he was so close he couldn't stand to go slow anymore.

Sex with Nick was almost never hard and fast and desperate. Not even after a hard case. Nick just never seemed to need it that way.

Nick's hands moved to Greg's cock, stroking lightly and Greg relished in the feeling of Nick's big slightly callused hands on his skin, on his cock. He let out a little shrieking moan as he felt himself coming. Nick's eyes got a little more dazed. They were cast downward watching Greg's cock as he came and it didn't take more than a few more thrusts for Nick to be right there with him.

Greg tried to catch his breath, Nick collapsed on top of him. Nick's face was resting comfortably in the crook of Greg's neck. He sighed in contentment and let his hands stroke Nick's back.

"This is a grown up relationship, isn't it." Greg said.

"Hmm?"

"Us, this, it's a grown up relationship. It's what it's like to be with someone who's a mature adult." Greg said.

"Make me sound ancient, why don't you Greg." Nick said.

"No, it's not like that, Nick. It's just the other people I've been with..."

Nick growled a little and Greg smiled. If it was one thing that Greg had discovered, it was that Nick didn't like to hear about Greg's past relationships at all. That had earned Greg a quick fuck up against the wall of Nick's hallway. Greg couldn't remember a time when he had had more sex than that day. Nick definitely had a possessive streak.

"It was all about amping it up in the bedroom. I know you don't like that."

"It's not that I don't like it. I mean, we just came home from having sex in the bathroom of our work. You talk me into these things, babe, but I just don't see the point. It's not like regular old sex isn't good."

"Nicky, regular sex with you is spectacular. I guess, other people just got bored with it."

"You like it though, right. You don't mind that I'm not exactly... adventurous."

"Yeah, it makes it feel more real. All those games and stuff are nice and hot, but at the end of the day I like that I can come home and the hottest thing you want is just me and us in bed having sex."

"You're enough for me Greg. That's just how it is."

"I've never been enough for anyone before. Guess it's just a new feeling."

Nick lifted his head to look Greg in the face. He moved off of him and gathered Greg into his arms as he snuggled up to the other side.

"I can't say that I'm upset about that because if you had been enough for somebody else you wouldn't get to be enough for me. And you know I love you."

"Hmmm... I love you too."

Maybe they didn't play games, but Greg liked his grown up relationship with Nick. And if the way Nick held him like he was the most precious thing in the world was any indication, Nick liked it too.
