Nick sighed as he looked at his watch, tapping his fingers impatiently on his knee. It wast past time for Greg to have come out of his psychiatrist's office, and he was getting tired of waiting.

No, he wasn't, he amended, feeling ashamed that he'd thought that way for even a second. Seeing a shrink was helping Greg; he had to put the past behind him, and the best way for him to do that was to talk about it, instead of keeping it all bottled up inside.

If Greg was ever going to be on his way to recovery, he had to access a lot of feelings that he'd kept buried for way too long. And Nick was more than willing to help his boyfriend along that road; he just didn't like the fact that Greg was pouring his heart out to a stranger.

He wanted to be the one who Greg could do that with.

Of course he wanted Greg to recover, he told himself with another soft sigh. He wanted Greg to be healthy and happy, to close the door on the past and be able to look towards the future. He wanted Greg to get past his fears, to slay his demons.

But he should be the person that his boyfriend could talk to, not some clinical stranger who didn't even know much about Greg. Yet it felt as though Greg was more comfortable talking to this stranger than he was with talking to Nick.

Maybe he should talk to Greg's shrink himself, Nick thought, a frown furrowing his forehead. That might be a good idea; then he could find out just what they talked about.

No, he couldn't. That would be breaching doctor/patient confidentiality, and no one who had any kind of decent professional ethics would ever do that, even if they knew that he was concerned about his relationship with Greg. He wouldn't blame them for it, either.

Still, he wanted to know why it was so much easier for Greg to talk to someone he didn't know well than it was for the man he loved to talk to him. They slept together for heavens' sake, Nick told himself. Greg should be perfectly comfortable with talking to him.

But this wasn't something it was easy for anyone to talk about.

Talking to Greg's shrink was starting to sound better and better to him. Not about Greg, but about his own feelings. He could tell them how it made him feel anxious that Greg didn't seem to be comfortable with talking to him, and they could take it from there.

Nick took a deep breath, smiling as the door opened and Greg walked into the waiting room. Now that he'd made up his mind, he would make an appointment with the shrink for next week. And maybe then he and Greg could both start on the road to recovery.
