He missed Danny so much. Even more than he'd thought he would.

Greg sighed, closing his eyes and leaning his head back against the couch cushions. It had only been two days, and he was already feeling lonely and sorry for himself.

He had no right to do that, he told himself crossly. He was the one who had encouraged Danny to go, to take part in this tournament; Danny had been planning on not doing so. But Greg didn't want to stop his boyfriend from doing what he loved.

Besides, golfing was what Danny did for a living. He might not be the absolute best at is, but he was good, and he had a right to pursue his career and his dream.

Greg wasn't going to hold him back from his goals.

And he trusted Danny. He knew that his boyfriend wasn't going to cheat on him while he was away; Danny wasn't that kind of person. He never would be.

He would come home when he could, at least once a week for a day or so. Maybe even more than that, if there were some rainy days and the tournament was slow. It wasn't like they weren't going to see each other at all for weeks. They would have some time together.

They were determined to each have their careers, to do what they loved, and to have each other, as well. It would work. They would make it work.

Maybe he should get a pet, Greg thought. He opened his eyes; sitting up, his eyes narrowing. He hadn't thought of anything like that before.

It seemed like a good idea. It would be nice to have a dog to greet him when he came home, a pet to keep him company. He'd had a dog when he had first started working at the crime lab, but Smokey had died of old age. He'd been ten when Greg had gotten him.

Still, they'd had four great years together. And he had missed that dog ever since, missed his company and the quiet, unconditional love he gave.

Maybe he just hadn't been ready for another pet until now.

Having an animal in his life would involve some responsibility; he would have to take some time away from other things to concentrate on a pet.

But he was more than willing to do that, Greg told himself with a smile. He'd done it before, even though he hadn't had as much responsibility at work then. But he was sure that he could; after all, Nick had a dog, and he didn't seem to have any problems.

Yes, it was time for him to have another animal in his life. It would help him not to miss Danny so much -- and he would have some much-needed company on the lonely days.

He got to his feet, reaching for his keys. He'd head for the shelter right now.
