Rating: PG-13
Summary: Loosing a soul mate is the hardest thing in the world.

He sat nailed to the screen not believing a word of what he saw. A plane had flown into one of World Trade Centers two towers and as he watched another plane flew into the other. An eerie silence fell over the lab, all personal present were watching the news.

Then all of a sudden the first tower collapsed and then the second, the magnitude of it was unbelievable.

"I'll call you tomorrow before I fly back. Don't worry it's just a meeting in New York."

Would those be the last words from the most important person in his life?

He wanted to call, but they said on the news that the network was overloaded and should be cleared for emergency calls only. He would wait; wait for a call coming to him instead.

The call had never come.

Her body was found two days after.

He had lost his soul mate for good. He had gone to the funeral and wept with her family and her parents had given him a big box of stuff they wanted him to have.

"If you're gonna live here you gotta let me know what's in that box." Nick insisted.

"The leftovers of my soul mate." He had never told anybody about her before.

"Soul mate?"

"My best friend from we when we were 8 years and on. She and I did everything together until I moved here." All the memories that he had buried with her coffin came pouring out and the tears unshed at the time came back with a vengeance.

"She died in the 9/11 attack. She was the only one who truly understood me before you came along." He was sobbing and had to make an effort in speaking clear enough for Nick to understand.

"We made a promise when we were 18. That if we were both single at 35 we would settle down together."

"Why did you want to wait?" Nick was holding him firmly in his arms.

"Because we both wanted to try a lot and we never really shared a sexual attraction."

"Why haven't you told me about her before?"

"I don't know. Maybe I thought I had lost too much and that I would never have some one as close again."

"I'll always be here baby."

That had been Nick's answer and now he here was looking at Nick in a coffin.

A soul mate lost
A soul mate gained
A soul mate slipping away
A soul lost in despair

He remembered her reading it to him when they were 12. It was a poem for her English assignment. How could she have had such an insight all those years ago?

He sent her a silent prayer to care of Nick if they couldn't find him in time.

A/N: Eight hours ago London was at the mercy of yet another bomb attack. I have two friends there and I know one is okay and the other have no reason to be in that area. But it still scared me.

Those who lost their lives today…

It just didn't make any sense.
