He woke up with a gasp, and for a few terrifying seconds, he was back in the box.

Then his senses kicked back in; felt the blankets against his skin, the heat of Greg's body next to his, Greg's heart as it beat its rhythm against Nick's hand. He took a shuddering breath.

He was safe, he knew he was safe.

He also knew he wouldn't get anymore sleep, he never did after a nightmare. Running a hand through his unruly hair he glanced at the alarm clock. Another four hours before it was time to get ready for work.

Fuck.

He sat up and glanced over at Greg, who was sleeping peacefully next to him. For a few seconds, he toyed with the thought of waking him up, but decided against it almost immediately.

Greg really hadn't gotten much sleep lately, the dark smudges under his eyes a constant reminder of that. He reached out and ran his hand through Greg's hair, then placed a kiss on his cheek.

He lingered for a few minutes, drinking in Greg's unique smell and the softness of his skin where it touched his lips. Greg didn't even twitch, deeply asleep. Nick smiled gently and silently slipped out of bed.

He made his way into the living room and switched on the tv, turning down the sound 'till he could barely hear it. He flopped down on the couch and stared at the screen listlessly.

He really hated this. He didn't have as many nightmares as he used to, and they were not as bad. But they where still bad enough for him to cry out, waking up Greg in the process.

This was actually the first time he hadn't woken Greg up with his nightmare, and he was immensely pleased with that. He just wished he could go back to sleep after, that when he closed his eyes those haunting images wouldn't reappear and keep him awake.

He'd gotten sleeping pills from his doctor, but he didn't like taking them. He was really frustrated; it had been almost six months. He should be over it by now.

His thoughts got interrupted by a small sound, and he looked up to see a barely awake Greg shuffle into the room. He was rubbing his eyes with one hand like a little boy, trying to get the sleep out of his eyes. Nick sat up a little, instantly feeling guilty, although he wasn't entirely sure why.

"G… why are you out of bed? It isn't time to go to work yet…"

Greg made his way to the couch, occasionally bumping into furniture that dared to get in his way. He sank down next to Nick and mumbled something Nick couldn't make out.

"What?"

"Woke up 'cause you weren't there…"

Nick blinked and looked down at Greg as he nestled his head in Nick's lap, stretching out on the couch as best as he could. He looped his arms around Nick's waist and let out a content sigh as he snuggled closer. A gentle snore rose up seconds later, Greg already back to sleep.

Nick looked at him in wonder, sudden tears stinging his eyes. He wondered what he'd done to deserve such an amazing person like Greg, but boy, was he glad he'd done it.

He reached out for the blanket Greg liked to snuggle up in, and placed it over him, hell-bent on making sure Greg wouldn't wake up again and lose even more sleep.

Then he turned his attention back to the tv, his hand moving unconsciously to Greg's hair to card his fingers through the soft strands. The movement was kind of hypnotizing, and after a while his eyes started to feel heavy.

He nodded off slowly, his hand still in Greg's hair, the other resting possessively on Greg's thigh.

Tomorrow he would probably wake up with a crick in his neck, and Greg with cramp in his legs, but they didn't care.

They where going to be just fine.
