When Don came down with the sniffles, Jackson and Danny avoided close contact at all costs. None of them could afford to be sick, but sometimes it couldn't be avoided. Jackson made sure they had lots of cold medicine and tissues, and Danny made chicken noodle soup. The following happened about three days after Don got sick.....

"What, baby?"

"Did you take your medicine?"

"Yes, but I still can't breathe through my nose too good....."

'I know, doll.....just try to relax and get some more sleep....."

Jackson took Don's empty soup bowl to the kitchen. He washed the dishes, poured Don some more orange juice, and headed toward the bedroom.....

"What is it, Donnie?"

"I can't sleep....."

"I know , doll....."

"Where's Danny?"

"He got called out to a scene....."

"Dammit! It could be hours before he gets back......"

"I know......."

"Yes, Donnie?"

"You know I can't sleep without both of you in bed, right?"

"I know.....I have the same problem......"

"Baby, will you sing to me? Maybe I can fall asleep......."

"Sure.....what do you want to hear?"

"Sing me that song about being a rock....."

Jackson giggled at Don's request. He never was too good with song titles, but it didn't matter. Jackson knew what he was talking about. He climbed up on the bed with Don and waited while Don got comfortable with his head in Jackson's lap. Jackson began carding his fingers through Don's silky dark hair and when Don got still, Jackson began to sing..........

".....a winter's day, in a deep and dark December......

I am alone, gazing from my window

To the street below

On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.....

I am a rock, I am an island....."

Jackson sang a bit more of the song and heard snuffling snore coming from Don. He smiled and eased himself out of the bed. He made his way to the living room to read, but in truth, he just wanted to wait up to see if Danny got home okay.....
