He's got that look on his face, the one that tells Nick he stopped listening at least two sentences ago. Nick doesn't even know what he's focused on that's so fascinating, but obviously it's more interesting than Nick's case.

"Greg. Are you even listening?"

No answer, and now he's just starting to get annoyed. He turns away from Greg, following his line of vision past the wall of glass that separates the DNA lab from the hall. Grissom's standing out there, arms crossed over his chest as he listens to Sara telling him something. Probably about the case they're supposed to be working, and Nick knows he should go out there and find out what she knows, but he can't do anything until he gets his results from Greg.

"Look, G, I just need…"

"How long do you think it's gonna take before Grissom gives in?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Sara. He's been fighting it forever, but you can tell his resolve's starting to crumble."

And Nick has no idea what Greg's talking about, but the last thing he wants to think about is Grissom and Sara. Especially not when he has to work with her. He suppresses a shudder at the thought and reaches for Greg's chair, spinning him around until Greg's back is to the window and Nick's hands are braced on either side of him. Greg's eyes are wide, the only sign that he wasn't expecting Nick to do anything as drastic as physically dragging him away from his contemplation of their boss' love life.

"Would you forget about office gossip for a second?"

As soon as the words leave his mouth Greg's features relax into a grin, and suddenly Nick's painfully aware of just how close they are.

"You sure you want to forget about it? It's not all about Grissom and Sara, you know."

He knows he's going to regret it, but before he can stop himself the words are tumbling out of his mouth. "What do you mean?"

"People talk," Greg answers with a casual shrug, glancing down for a second before he looks back up at Nick, all wide-eyed innocence and it's all Nick can do not to shut him up the only way he knows how. "Sometimes they even talk about you."

"What about me?"

He hears the edge in his voice, knows Greg hears it too when he smirks and shifts until they're somehow even closer. And he knows he should pull away, straighten up and put a safe distance between them, but before he can Greg's hand closes around the front of his shirt. A second later he's being kissed, Greg's mouth warm against his and Nick flushes when he hears himself groan. As soon as his lips part Greg's tongue is in his mouth, sliding against his and if people weren't talking before, they will be now.

Only he doesn't care, because Greg's other hand is in his hair, tilting his head just enough to fit their mouths together and…yeah, this is exactly how he always imagined it would be. Another moan, and he's pretty sure that one belongs to Greg, but it doesn't matter because the sound's muffled by the kiss. Somewhere in the back of his mind is a voice reminding him that their boss is standing right outside, that any second now he's going to look up and see them – or worse, walk in and catch Nick trying to climb into Greg's chair with him.

He pulls back with a gasp, lips swollen and eyes wide and he can feel his mouth working, but no words are coming out. And Greg's still smiling that smug smile, only there's a new spark in his eyes and his hand's still clenched around the front of Nick's shirt.

"Guess it wasn't just a rumor after all."

Nick knows he should ask, but he's pretty sure he doesn't want to hear the answer. Not now, anyway, because he's still got half a shift to get through and at least he's finally got Greg's attention. "Look, I need my DNA results."

"On one condition."

He rolls his eyes, but he can't quite stop the grin that's threatening to form. "What?"

"We finish this later."

Nick pauses long enough to glance up, swallowing a relieved sigh when he discovers that the hall outside Greg's lab is empty. He turns back to Greg, grinning and leaning in for another quick kiss before he pulls away and reaches for the paper Greg holds out. "You can count on it."
