The silent night was broken by the smooth voice of Billie Holiday. 'Good Morning, Heartache'. It was a fitting song, Don decided, as he sipped his morning coffee and ignored the bagel in front of him. He skimmed the front page of the news warily... he didn't really care that much anymore about what was going on in the world. That song kept filtering in his mind. The truth of it was, he wasn't a fan of old Jazz. Jazz in general wasn't his thing actually. He was more of an alternative rock bordering on pop-mainstream teenie bopper culture almost. He liked what was popular because then he could dance at the clubs and sing along as loud as he could because that got people's attention. And, as Danny had told him a million times before... once your eyes were on Don Flack-- you never let him leave your sight. Except, that wasn't exactly true. In fact, if that was true... he wouldn't be sitting here at 11:24 PM drinking coffee and listening to Billie Holiday... whom he didn't really like anyways. And despire the fact that it wasn't morning, the song was exactly how he felt. But, back to the matter at hand. He didn't like Billie Holiday, but one Mac Taylor did. And despite everything he tried to tell himself... Mac Taylor had quickly become the center of his universe. He had, quite freely, given his heart to Mac Taylor and in turn, the older man had broken it and tossed it. His freehand drummed along with the agonizingly slow beat as he continued to drown his thoughts into the rich brown liquid of his coffee. That was, until he thought the lyrics would make his head explode. He had been torturing himself. He was playing the song on repeat, listening to it until now... where he had tears streaming down his cheeks and the heart he knew wasn't there anymore was cold and aching, throbbing with its unidentifiable pain. He stood up and almost tossed his coffee cup into the wall... but he restrained himself. He reached the cd player and hit the stop button, the quiet of before resuming. It was almost a painful silence. His sniffles punctuated the silence sometimes as he reminded himself that grown men didn't cry. He really needed to grow up. He needed to think, he needed to rationalize... after all... it was probably his fault.

He had moved a little too fast. Well, he had moved way too fast, actually. Things had transpired quickly and their one night stand became a weekly meeting for sex. But, Don had been craving more. But he tried to push Mac into things he wasn't ready for. He had said 'I love you' which probably wouldn't have been so bad except... it wasn't in the heat of passion thing. He had actually meant it. And that was when Mac turned and walked out. He was reminded of another song from an infernal game Danny liked to play. Dance Dance Revolution, if he recalled the name correctly. 'After all they shared how could he simply say no, after all they shared he turned away from her to go. She said she wouldn't cry that was really just a lie'. That was how the line went and if they changed the gender, that was Don and Mac in a nutshell, really.
