"Come on, just a few steps further," Zeke encouraged Greg as he led his boyfriend forward from the doorway of his apartment into the dining room. Greg stepped forward cautiously, frowning as he raised his hands in front of him before he took another step.

There was a blindfold over Greg's eyes, keeping him from seeing the room around him. Zeke smiled to himself as he placed a gentle hand under his boyfriend's elbow to steady him. Greg would be surprised when the blindfold came off and he took a look around.

His lover had been working far too hard lately, at least in Zeke's point of view. He knew that the crime lab had been busier than usual, but he hated to see Greg so tired and run-down. He wanted this night to be a romantic evening for the two of them, to take Greg's mind off work.

And he also wanted his boyfriend to be able to fall into bed and get some sleep, he told himself. He'd turned Greg's cell phone off; no one was going to bother them tonight, and no one was going to call Greg in to work on his evening off. He'd made sure of that.

He didn't care how busy the crime lab was, or how much work they might have to do on any number of new cases. Greg hadn't had a night off for the last two weeks; he kept getting called in, even when he had been assured that he'd finally be able to get some rest.

Didn't these people understand that Greg -- ad well as the other people who worked there -- had personal lives that they needed to attend to? Zeke thought, ire rising within him. And also, that they had physical needs, like sleep? That didn't seem to matter in their world.

He himself knew what it was like to be overworked -- after all, he was a doctor. But what the crime lab was doing to Greg was just as bad, and he wasn't going to let it keep happening. Tonight was going to be a night when Greg could finally relax and take it easy.

"I've got you, babe," he murmured, sliding his arm around Greg's waist. "Don't worry, there's nothing in your way. Just take another few steps, and I'll take the blindfold off." He turned his head to nibble gently at Greg's earlobe, drawing a soft moan from the other man.

"If you keep doing that, then you're going to have to head for the bedroom," he said softly, turning his head towards Zeke as though he could see him through the blindfold. "I'm all curious now. Just what is this all about? I'm on pins and needles."

"You're about to find out," Zeke told him, raising his hands to untie the knot of the blindfold and remove it. He was proud of what he'd done, if he did say so himself. The room looked very romantic, and he hoped that Greg would think so, too. He'd gone to a lot of trouble to set this up.

Zeke watched his boyfriend as Greg took in the room around then, watched the other man's eyes wide and heard the soft gasp of surprise coming from his lips. His own smile widened; he had hoped to have just this affect on his boyfriend, and he was enjoying Greg's surprise.

The dining room was softly lit with a number of candles, and scented by the mass of roses in the center of the table. There were glasses of champagne by each plate, and Zeke had taken care fo even arrange the food so that it looked especially appetizing.

He had wanted to surprise Greg with a romantic evening, and judging from the expression on his boyfriend's face, he had managed to do just that. Greg looked around the room again, then turned to Zeke with a smile, sliding his arms around his lover's waist.

"It's beautiful, Zeke," he breathed, the words so soft that Zeke almost had to strain to hear them. "I can't believe you did all this for me. It must have taken you half the day to set this up. What's the occasion? And what did I do to deserve all this?"

"No special occasion," Zeke answered, his words equally as soft. The way Greg's hands were moving down his back too his breath away; all he wanted to do at the moment was grab his boyfriend's hand and lead him directly to the bedroom, completely forgetting about dinner.

But he'd taken time and care to set up this romantic meal for them, and he wasn't going to let all his planning and preparation go to waste. "I just wanted to do something nice for you," he continued, raising a hand to caress Greg's jaw. "You've been working way too hard lately."

"You work just as hard as I do," Greg told him, brushing his lips against Zeke's cheek. "You didn't have to go to all this trouble just to surprise me -- but I'm glad you did. It's beautiful, Zeke. It's nice to have a candlelit romantic dinner at home, just the two of us."

"I've even got music," Zeke told him with a soft laugh. Reluctantly loosening his hold on Greg, he went into the living room to turn on the stereo; immediately, he soft sounds of Billie Holiday filled the room with a seductive slow jazz song, the music twining around them insidiously.

Zeke held out his arms to his boyfriend; dinner could wait for a little while. He wanted to slow dance with Greg around the room, hold his boyfriend close, feel Greg relaxed and pliant in his arms. He wanted to be as close to this man as he could possibly be.

Without a word, Greg moved into his arms; Zeke held him close, closing his eyes and inhaling the cinnamon scent of his boyfriend's favorite cologne. He loved being with Greg like this, just the two of them, as intimately romantic as they could get. It was like being in heaven.

Greg was his heave. Greg was his moon, his stars, the sun around which his life revolved. There were other things in his life that were important to him, of course -- he loved his work, and there were other things that he enjoyed doing. But Greg was the center of it.

"You're my heaven," he whispered into Greg's ear, needing to say the words. He wanted Greg to hear them, to know that they were true. He wanted Greg to know that he was loved -- and that romantic surprises like this were something that he could expect more of in the future.

"And you're mine," Greg whispered back, resting his forehead against Zeke's and closing his eyes. "You always have been, from the first second I saw you. Who would have thought that getting a physical could lead me to the love of my life? But I guess stranger things have happened."

"Just chalk it up to one more surprise," Zeke murmured with a soft laugh. He tightened his arms around Greg, their bodies swaying in rhythm with the music. He would have to think of more romantic surprises in the future, he told himself. So far, this one was working out very well indeed.
