"How's the case going?" Greg asked, trying not to sound too eager.

Spencer always called him when he was on a case, every night when he was back in his hotel room in whatever place the BAU team had been sent to. Tonight was no exception.

Greg was hoping against hope that the case was solved, that the team would have a little time off and that Spencer would be able to come home to Vegas for a while.

Of course, he knew that wasn't likely; if the case was solved, then Spencer would have told him right away. He usually did, though there were times when they would converse for a while before he would tell Greg that their case was over and that he was heading home the next day.

Tonight, however, wasn't one of those nights. "It's coming along well, I think," Spencer said, his voice soft. "I don't think we'll be here more than another couple of days."

"That's good to hear," Greg said, feeling relieved. For a moment, he'd been worried that his boyfriend would say they might be in Seattle for another week, or more.

Though it usually didn't take them that long to solve a case.

He was proud of what Spencer did, just as Spencer was proud of all that Greg had accomplished. They were both professionals, with demanding careers that meant a lot to them.

He just wished that they had more time to spend with each other. But there was no use wishing for that, at least not now; neither of them wanted to give up their careers, and he wasn't going to expect Spencer to spend more time here when his work was so important to him.

So far, they were making it work, and that was the important thing, Greg told himself firmly. They might not have ironed out all the kinks yet, but they were working on it.

"So how has your day been?" Spencer asked, his voice very soft. Greg knew that he was searching for something to say, feeling guilty that their case wasn't at an end yet.

"It was actually good," Greg told him, smiling as he spoke. "Yeah, I caught a new case, but I think we've already got a good handle on it. It might take us a few days to figure out who committed the murder, but I've got a feeling that I already know how they pulled it off."

"You're brilliant," Spencer said softly, affection and admiration in his voice. "I hope that crime lab knows how lucky they are to have you, Greg. You're a treasure."

Greg blushed, feeling pride wash over him at the obvious sincerity of his lover's words.

"I could say the same thing about you and the BAU," he answered, his pride in his boyfriend obvious in the tone of his voice. "They'd better appreciate all you do for them."

"Oh, they do," Spencer said with a soft laugh. "They know that they're working with a genius, even though they do get annoyed with me sometimes."

"Just like the people at the crime lab get annoyed with me," Greg laughed, feeling lighthearted. He was talking to his boyfriend, and even if they were far apart right now, he was sure that the BAU team would have their case solved soon, and Spencer would be here with him as quickly as possible.

"I miss you," Spencer murmured, his voice sinking to a near whisper. "I wish I was there with you, Greg. I'll be home as soon as I can be. You know that."

Greg nodded, even though he knew that Spencer couldn't see him. He did know that. He knew that Spencer wanted to be here as badly as he wanted his love with him.

Spencer would be here soon. He had to hold on to that thought.

"I know you will," he murmured, his voice catching in his throat. "Get the case solved, Spencer. Get it solved, and hurry home to me. I need to be with you."

"I need to hold you," Spencer said softly, the tone of his voice like a caress that Greg could almost feel through the phone line. And I'll be there soon, Greg. I miss you, sweetheart. I miss you so much. But don't think about us missing each other. Think about how great it'll be when I see you again."

"I will," Greg said, the smile still curving his lips. "I love you, Spencer. And I miss you, too." He paused for a moment before speaking again. "I'll talk to you tomorrow. 'Bye, love."

"Talk to you then," Spencer said, adding. "I love you. 'Bye for now."

Greg was still smiling as he clicked his cell phone off, but he did wish that the BAU's case was already solved, and that Spencer was on his way here already.

He wanted his boyfriend to hurry home, so that they could hold each other again. He hoped that it wouldn't be much longer before they would be doing just that.
