Everything felt like a dream. He was in some hazy wonderland, floating above the ground, and Tim was sitting here holding his hand. He wasn't quite sure where he was, but there was no pain; he wasn't frightened. Not with Tim right here by his side ....

Jimmy opened his eyes, squinting at the light. Everything came into focus with a few blinks; he realized that he was in a hospital room, with Tim sitting by his bed.

He turned his head to see his boyfriend watching him, a small, expectant smile on his face. Poor Tim, he looked so worried, Jimmy thought, Didn't he realize that it was all over, and they were both safe? There was nothing to worry about any more.

it look at moment for everything to come rushing back to him.

No, none of it had been a dream. Maybe the peaceful, floating feeling he'd awakened with was something of a dream, but that was only because he was probably on some very strong painkillers. He'd needed them after everything that had happened ....

That thought made him close his eyes again, wishing that he could push the memories away. It was all hazy and a little unreachable at the moment, but the memories were there, just on the edges of his consciousness. He knew what had happened, and it was all too real.

But it was over now. He was here in the hospital, safe, with Tim beside him. His boyfriend hadn't turned away in disgust, as his fear-induced ramblings had made him think. Tim was here with him, and he wasn't going to leave. Tim had been his white knight and had come to his rescue.

Tim had been there when Jimmy had needed him the most. He wasn't the kind of man who would turn away from anyone he loved; even though he'd made himself think that this would destroy their relationship, he knew deep inside that it wouldn't. Nothing could tear them apart.

"Hey," Tim said softly, smiling at him. "I love you."

Those few words brought tears to Jimmy's eyes; he hadn't expected Tim to say them, not here, not now, but he was happy to hear them. Yes, Tim was indeed here for him. Tim was with him, and he wasn't going to turn away. They would face the future together.

"Hey," he whispered, squeezing Tim's hand. "This all kind of feels like a dream, but if it is, then I'm glad to be waking up here beside you."

"You'll be able to do that every day," Tim whispered. "For the rest of our lives." Jimmy closed his eyes again, feeling tears welling up. He wanted to hold on to those words as tightly as he could, keep them close to his heart, and know that they were the truth rather than an ephemeral dream.
