"Doctor, are you sure this is a good idea?"

The Doctor nodded as he stepped out of the open door of the Tardis, looking around him with a smile. "Yes, Jamie, it's fine. There really is nothing to worry about."

Personally, Jamie wasn't so sure about that. He peered up into the sky, looking at the dark clouds that seemed to arch overhead like a vaulted ceiling. Somehow, he couldn't help feeling that they presaged trouble, and that they were a warning of trouble to come.

He didn't feel right about being here, though the Doctor seemed to think that there was no danger. But he could sense it, feel it in the very air around them.

Or was he being overly cautious?

No, he didn't think it was that. He could feel the danger gathering around them; he was surprised that the Doctor couldn't seem to sense it, too.

The other man turned to him with a serious look. "Yes, Jamie, I feel it, too," he said, his voice low, barely above a mere whisper. "I know that there's something ominous in the air. But in case we're being watched, I don't want to give whoever might have their eye on us any indication that I do."

Jamie nodded, feeling a wave of relief sweep over him. So the Doctor wasn't as oblivious as he appeared; that was good to know. He'd been worried for a few moments.

He could feel the Master's presence; he had no doubt that their enemy was here, and he could very well be watching them at this very moment.

The hairs on the back of his neck were standing up; he could almost feel that malevolent gaze directed at both of them. The Master would stop at nothing to get them out of his way; he would destroy them without a thought, and consider the world a better place for their loss.

Or was it just Jamie that he wanted to get rid of? After all, he did seem to consider the Doctor as "his," and viewed Jamie as an interloper.

That thought sent a cold chill down Jamie's spine.

The Master was more of a threat than the dark clouds overhead that presaged a deluge of rain could ever be. He was even darker than those clouds, more of a menace.

Clouds couldn't do anything but pour down rain on them. The Master could do so much more -- and Jamie didn't want to know what his absolute worst could be. He'd seen enough of what the Master could be like, and he had had enough of the Doctor's memories to make him flinch.

Whatever lay in store for them, he knew that the Master would be part of it. His presence was palpable, and the fact that he was watching them couldn't be denied.

The clouds seemed to darken even further in response to his thoughts.

Maybe they were watching, too.

Jamie wouldn't doubt it for a moment.
