Jamie raised his gaze from the small viewscreen he'd been staring into on the Tardis' console, watching his lover as the Doctor pressed a few buttons, setting the ship into motion. Within moments, he felt the familiar displacement of time and space around him.

He was used to that by now; it was something that actually made him feel at home, as though he'd always belonged here in the Tardis with the Doctor. Well, he had always belonged here, hadn't he? Jamie asked himself, a small smile on his lips.

He was a part of the Doctor; he had literally sprung fully formed from the Time Lord's hand. He had the Doctor's face, his body, his memories; he belonged here more than any other companion ever had. He was meant to be here; this was the one place where he felt at home.

It wasn't just the Tardis that felt comfortable, Jamie told himself. It was the presence of the man he loved, the one person he would ever truly love. It didn't matter how others might see their relationship; all that mattered was that they loved each other and wanted to be together.

The Doctor had more than proved that he wanted Jamie here with him; he'd done everything possible to ensure that would happen, and once he'd made that decision, he hadn't changed his mind. Jamie knew that this was where he belonged -- this would always be his home.

He felt guilty once in a while that he hadn't thought this would last; he looked back on those days with more than a little embarrassment now. He had always hoped that the Doctor would keep him here by his side, of course, but in the beginning, he'd thought that it was too good to be true.

He was far past that now, he thought, propping his chin in his hands and smiling over at his lover. The Doctor raised his head, his dark eyes meeting Jamie's, a smile curving his own lips as they gazed at each other, their gazes locking before each of them reached out to the other.

"What are you thinking?" the Doctor asked, his voice soft and husky. Jamie knew that he could easily find out just what was on his mind; all that the Time Lord had to do was to extend his own mind, wrap it around Jamie's, and unite the two of them mentally.

But his lover wouldn't do that. The Doctor didn't like to delve into someone's mind unless he was invited to do so, and even though he always had tacit permission from Jamie, he still wouldn't invade a mind in that fashion unless he asked if it was all right.

"I'm thinking about us," Jamie said softly, reaching out to take the Doctor's outstretched hand in his own. "Me and you. The fact that I belong here, and I always will. How much I love you, and how much I love being here. How everything about us just feels .... right."

"Everything about having you here feels right to me," the Doctor said softly, moving around the console to be closer to Jamie. He slid his arm around the other man's waist, pulling Jamie close, pressing a kiss to his cheek as they embraced.

"I can't believe that I ever had any doubts about the two of us," Jamie murmured, a blush creeping into his cheeks. "I'm sorry about that, Doctor. But there were times, when we were first together, when I wondered if you might change your mind about wanting me."

"I'm sorry if I ever made you feel that way, love," the Doctor answered, his own voice husky with emotion. "Because I never would have changed my mind. I might have been hesitant about making the decision, but once I did, I knew that I would stick to it."

"I've never had any doubts about the two of us," Jamie told him, his dark gaze meeting the Doctor's. "I've known right from the beginning, even before you made that decision to take me away with you, that this was where I belonged. I've always believed in us."

"I hope you'll always believe in us, Jamie," the Doctor murmured, his voice still very soft -- and a little choked up. "We could exist separately, of course. But together, we can do anything. Me and you -- that's how it should always be. How it always will be."

"Me and you, for all of time," Jamie whispered, raising his hands to the Doctor's face. When their lips met, he closed his eyes, letting himself sink into that kiss. This was how it was meant to be. And how he wanted it to be, for the rest of eternity.
