The Doctor leaned back in the bath, resting his head against the edge of the tub and relaxing in the hot water. Clouds of steam almost obscured the door that led into the bedroom of the hotel suite he shared with Peter; he had to squint to see it.

They'd had a lovely time in Vegas, but it was nearly time for them to leave, the Time Lord told himself. They had been here for three days now, and he always felt a bit nervous when he'd been in one place for what felt like too long a time.

He wasn't used to having a place where he could settle in, and even if he'd been looking for that, Las Vegas definitely wouldn't fit the bill. This wasn't the sort of city he would want to live in; there was too much going on, and not enough peace and tranquility.

Being here seemed to have done Peter a great deal of good, though. The Doctor closed his eyes, a smile coming to his face. His boyfriend had seemed to be nervous and jumpy when they'd first come here, the ghost of his former girlfriend lurking around every corner.

But they hadn't run into her, and the Doctor was glad of that. There hadn't even been any confirmation that she was still living here, with or without the ex-husband that she'd left to be with Peter, and then gone back to. She seemed to have simply .... vanished.

The Doctor was glad of that fact. With her out of his life, that ghost exorcised for good, Peter could move on with his life and not look back. It seemed that he'd finally be able to do that, rather than feeling that she was still in Vegas and wanting to confront her.

All thoughts of Peter's past went out of his head as his boyfriend entered the room, carrying a bowl in one hand. The Doctor hardly noticed that, preferring to focus on the fact that Peter was naked; he was having a very hard time looking away from that delectable body.

"Mind making some room for me?" his boyfriend asked with a soft laugh as the Doctor moved forward in the bath. Peter set the bowl down on the floor before climbing into the tub and settling himself behind the Time Lord, letting the other man lean back against his chest.

"I thought we'd make our last night here a little decadent and act out a scene from Caligula!" Peter laughed, reaching for the bowl on the floor. The Doctor was surprised to see that it contained juice purple grapes; the sight of them made his mouth water.

"It's a bit hard to act that out in the bath, isn't it?" the Doctor asked with a smile, turning his head and nuzzling his cheek against Peter's shoulder. "But I like the idea of being fed grapes. That is rather decadent. And incredibly sexy."

Peter held one of the grapes to the Time Lord's lips; the Doctor obediently opened his mouth, allowed his boyfriend to feed him a piece of the fruit. "That's delicious," he said after he'd chewed and swallowed, waiting for Peter to have a grape himself.

But his lover shook his head, a crooked smile on his lips. "No, love, these are for you," he said softly, sinking a bit lower into the warmth of the water as he picked up another grape. "I love watching you eat them. Now that's what I call sexy."

The Doctor opened his mouth to let Peter feed him another of the grapes; he had to admit that this felt a lot more comfortable than he would have expected. Maybe it was just because Peter was near, and he felt safe in his lover's arms.

He'd had a bad feeling about coming to Las Vegas, hoping that Peter wouldn't be able to track down that horrible woman and see her again. He didn't think that his boyfriend would go back to her, but he'd been sure that no good could come of a possible confrontation.

Fortunately, there had been no meeting between them; the Doctor couldn't help but feel pleased, even though there was also a fair bit of guilt seeping into that relief. He knew that Peter wouldn't be able to fully exorcise that bad relationship from his psyche until he saw her again.

When the two of them did meet, he had every intention of being right there by Peter's side, the Time Lord told himself firmly. He was going to show that woman that Peter was perfectly happy without her -- in fact, that his life was better now that she wasn't in it.

Coming to Vegas hadn't been a complete waste of time, though. They'd been able to see the sights, and spend some time together in the place where they'd first met -- a place that, for him, brought back good memories. Vegas would always have a place in his hearts now.

This was the city where he'd first met Peter, and fallen in love almost instantly. And Peter had gotten a new lease on life -- he'd stopped searching for something that was long since over, and learned to move on with his life and reach out for his own happiness.

When they'd first met, Peter had never been with a man before -- and now, here they were, feeling at ease with each other as they lay naked in a warm bath. This was such a different scenario than either of them could have expected on that night of their first meeting.

Who would have thought that they would fall for each other so quickly -- or that they would stay together? The odds had seemed to be against them, but they'd beaten those odds and formed a bond that no one would ever be able to break. It almost felt as though they'd come full circle.

He laughed softly as Peter's warm breath brushed his cheek, turning his head and opening his mouth to let Peter feed him another grape. "Who would have thought when we first met that we would end up like this?" he murmured, closing his eyes and sighing in contentment.

"I couldn't imagine any place I'd rather be," Peter told him, an answering laugh rumbling through his chest. The Doctor smiled, leaning back against his lover and relaxing in the warm water. At the moment, life was good, and he was perfectly content to be right where he was.
