"Josef, you know I'm not going to hurt you," Mick sighed, resting his forehead against his boyfriend's bare shoulder. His hands moved down Josef's sides, arms sliding around that slender waist to pull the other man back against his body.

"And you know I don't like taking it from behind," Josef complained, trying to turn his head to look back at Mick. "Not that you aren't an amazing lover, but ...." His voice trailed off as he shrugged, his body tense and rigid in Mick's embrace.

"It reminds you of your last night as a human, doesn't it?" Mick asked softly, pressing gentle kisses along the curve of Josef's shoulder. "You know I'm not going to do anything that would hurt you, sweetheart. I want to get you past that fear."

"I know," Josef sighed, his body sagging back against Mick's. "I just .... every time you mention that, all I can think of is how bad it hurt. I know you wouldn't hurt me, it's just impossible to push that memory away. It's always going to come back."

"Yes, it will -- until you get it out of your mind and replace it with a memory of pleasure instead of pain," Mick told him, nuzzling his cheek against Josef's hair. "We've made love in that position before. And you can't expect the memory to just disappear after one time."

Reluctantly, Josef nodded, another sigh leaving his lips. "Yeah, I know. But that doesn't make it any easier for me to just bend over and .... and take it." His voice actually trembled on the last word; Mick kissed the back of his neck, murmuring soft words.

"Don't be afraid, sweetheart .... I promise, it'll only hurt for a second," he whispered, wishing that he could set Josef's mind at ease and take away the fear he felt .He didn't blame his boyfriend for being scared; he couldn't begin to imagine what Josef had been through on that night.

"It wasn't so bad last time," Josef conceded, turning his head and leaning back slightly, attempting to look up at his lover. "Actually, it felt pretty good once I wasn't so tense any more. If you want to try it again, I'm not going to say no."

"You're not?" One hand was already trailing down Josef's spine, stroking as it moved down. Mick didn't want to push his boyfriend into anything he really didn't want to do, but he knew that Josef had to get past this if he wanted to make peace with the past.

"Of course not." Josef sighed with pleasure, laying back against Mick's chest and letting his body go limp. "Do with me what you will," he told the other man, flashing that insouciant smile that Mick loved. "I trust you, Mick. Just a little apprehensive, that's all."

Mick returned the smile, lowering his mouth to Josef's shoulder again, pressing kisses over the other man's pale flesh. He loved having Josef pliant and willing in his arms; he'd been dreaming about this all day, eager to spend the night making love with his boyfriend.

Of course, it might have been better to go to Josef's penthouse, he told himself, glancing at the silent phone on his desk. But Josef had come here, and Mick hadn't wanted to wait to initiate their physical contact. He hadn't been able to wait.

Okay, so making love here on the couch might be a little less comfortable than it would be in his bed upstairs. They wouldn't have as much room here, but having Josef on his hands and knees and taking him from behind wouldn't require a lot of space.

Moving slowly, so as not to startle his boyfriend, Mick pressed one lubed finger gently against Josef's entrance, feeling the other man tense for a moment before he let his muscles relax. Mick took advantage of that momentary relaxation to push forward, slowly but firmly.

Josef gasped softly, but didn't tense again; Mick could tell that he was trying his best to stay relaxed. He pressed more gentle kisses against Josef's shoulder, his throat, his cheek -- and against his parted lips when Josef turned his head slightly to the side.

A second finger quickly joined the first; Mick wanted to stretch and prepare Josef as much as he could before his baser instincts took over; he was going to make sure that this experience was all pleasure for his lover, with as little pain as possible.

Within seconds, Josef was pushing his hips back against Mick's fingers, moaning the other man's name. Mick couldn't help but smile at that; Josef might take a while to let his passions simmer, but once they ascended that slow burn, they came to a boiling point remarkably soon.

It only took a few minutes for them both to be ready; Mick could sense that Josef wanted this as much as he did. He slid his fingers out of Josef's body, gently pushing Josef forward onto his hands and knees and positioning himself behind the other man.

In one quick, smooth movement, he thrust into Josef, gasping as he was surrounded by a tight heat that seemed to draw him in. The two of them seemed fused together, their bodies melding in a spiral of pleasure that could lift them to the stars.

Mick placed his hands on Josef's slender hips, thrusting forward again, moaning his boyfriend's name. This was worth all the cajoling, all the trepidation. This pleasure was unlike anything he'd ever felt before, all the more intense for being so hard-won.

Looking down, he watched as his cock slid deep inside the other man, the sight almost making him giddy. Knowing that he was making love to Josef, knowing that the man he loved trusted him enough to let him do this, was a more powerful sensation than the lovemaking itself.

He didn't know what made him look towards the front door; had a glimpse of movement caught his eye? There was no sound, nothing to make his gaze turn in that direction -- but when it did, what he saw there made his eyes widen and brought a gasp to his throat.

Beth was standing in the doorway of his apartment, her eyes wide with shock, a trembling hand raised to her mouth as she watched them. Mick didn't stop his movements; he was unable to control the rhythm of his body. And besides -- he didn't want to stop.

He wanted her to see this. He wanted her to know that he was irrevocably bound to Josef, that this was the person he loved and wanted to make love to, not her. He wanted her to realize once and for all that he wasn't interested in her, to stop her from stalking him once and for all.

Josef had seen her, too; his head was turned towards the door, and he was pushing his hips back more determinedly into Mick's thrusts. Mick was sure that seeing the two of them like this definitely wasn't what she had expected when she'd opened that door.

When her eyes met Mick's, he was sure that she had read the triumph written there -- and the lust for Josef that he couldn't hide. She turned and fled without a sound, the door banging closed behind her, the sound echoing in the room, mingling with their moans of pleasure.

Mick might have expected the interruption to completely distract the two of them, but it didn't. He was too close to the edge, too focused on the pleasure sweeping through his body. He thrust into Josef again, feeling his climax start to rush to the surface.

Within seconds, he was gasping and spasming, his orgasm taking control. It only took a single thrust more for Josef to join him, the other man's body shaking uncontrollably as Mick collapsed on top of him, wrapping his arms around that slim body and pulling his lover close.

They lay like that for what seemed like a very long time; neither of them wanted to mention what had happened while they were making love, but Mick knew that if they didn't, it would become an elephant looming large in the room while they tried to ignore it.

Mick moved a hand down the front of Josef's body, cupping the other man's cock in one warm hand. He hadn't pulled out of his boyfriend; he wanted to stay buried in that tight warmth for as long as he was allowed, to luxuriate in their union.

Josef shifted slightly, pushing his ass back against Mick's body with a soft groan. Mick nuzzled his shoulder, hoping that tonight had gone a long way towards convincing Josef that being taken from behind wasn't so bad, after all.

After what seemed like a very long time, Josef finally cleared his throat and spoke. "I guess that means she won't be trying to get you into bed any more, doesn't it?" He sounded equal parts rueful and amused, his voice hovering on the verge of laughter.

"I hope not!" Mick said with feeling. "I've told her more than once that she can't be anything but a friend to me, if that. I'm sick of her attitude that she's somehow irresistible, and that I owe it to her to fuck her and marry her, or some crazy shit like that."

"Let me talk to her," Josef said, the tone of his voice changing to a menacing snarl. "I'll show her once and for all that you're taken, and that she'll never have a chance in hell with you. If anybody can scare her enough to convince her of that, I can."

Mick laughed softly, shaking his head and raising a hand to stroke his fingertips over the soft skin of Josef's bare shoulder. "No, babe, just forget her. Now that she's seen us in action, she's got to know that she's lost the game she was playing. I hope she'll just go away."

"I wouldn't count on that," Josef told him, sighing. "She wants you bad, Mick. I think she'll try to expose what we are -- or at least expose me. She'll use some kind of blackmail, because she thinks you care about her too much to stop her from trying it."

"If she does, she'll find out just how much I don't care about her," Mick said flatly, his voice taking on a darker cast. "I thought I did at one time, but finding out what a selfish bitch she is killed any feelings I might have had for her. Well, that and the fact that I'm in love with you."

He nuzzled his cheek against Josef's hair, turning on his side and reluctantly pulling out of the other man. Josef managed to turn around to face him, sliding his arms around Mick's neck, snuggling against his lover and closing his eyes with a contented sigh.

"Y'know, I think I could get used to sleeping on your couch," he said, raising his hand to cover a yawn. "It's getting to be pretty familiar. And it's not all that uncomfortable, either -- even though mine is roomier. I should buy you a bigger couch."

"Or we could just move upstairs to my bed," Mick told him with a soft laugh. Reluctantly disentangling himself from their embrace, he stood up, bending to slide his arms under Josef's knees and behind his back, lifting the slender man into his arms.

He nearly ran up the stairs, depositing Josef in his bed and looking down at his lover with a smile. This was where Josef belonged; sleepy and rumpled, sated from their earlier lovemaking. He could look at the vision presented to his gaze for the rest of his life.

Josef lay back, holding out his arms to Mick with a smile. The other man joined him in bed, rolling over on top of his lover and wrapping his arms around Josef. He used one hand to pull the covers over their naked bodies, closing his eyes and letting himself relax.

It didn't matter that Beth had seen them. It was a good thing that she had, he told himself. Far from being something he wanted to keep secret, he was proud of his relationship with Josef. He wanted the world to know that he loved this man.

Tonight had managed to accomplish two things -- he'd helped Josef leap over a chasm that he'd been turning away from for far too long, and hopefully, it had also shown that bitch that he didn't want her in his life and she was wasting her time chasing him.

Snuggling closer to Josef, Mick closed his eyes and let himself relax. It occurred to him as he was drifting off to sleep that he'd left the front door unlocked; his eyes flew open again, and he carefully disengaged himself from his already sleeping lover's embrace.

Getting out of bed, he padded silently down the stairs to lock and bolt the door, making sure that there would be no unwelcome surprises for the rest of the night. As he headed back up the steps to the bedroom, he couldn't help but smile at the memory.

Somehow, this night had not only freed Josef from a bad memory of the past -- but it had freed him, too. His life with Josef could begin in earnest now; their relationship was out in the open for all to see. At long last, there was no need for them to hide.

Mick slipped back under the covers and took Josef into his arms again, cradling the other man against his chest. All he wanted to do was spend his life with this man -- sharing every day and night with him, until their very existences blended and became one, just as their bodies did.

The two of them were the perfect blend, Mick thought contentedly as he closed his eyes and let himself drift off to sleep. They fit together like two puzzle pieces clicking into place, and now that they were firmly connected, he knew that nothing would ever manage to separate them.
