John looked down with a grin. "What's up, buddy?"

"Sammy needs to learn how to swim."

John smiled and lifted his son into his arms. "Don't worry, Dean. Sammy will learn when he's ready."

"I'll be the one to teach him, right?"

"I'm not sure."

Dean frowned. "But I always show Sammy how to do things."

"Well, sometimes other people will have to do that. And other times he's going to need to learn for himself."

Dean nodded solemnly. "So someday Sammy's not going to need me anymore?"

John couldn't bear to confirm the sorrow in his son's eyes.
