This was going to be a difficult meeting.

Ianto took a deep breath as he leaned back, resting his head against the head rest of the car seat. He knew that he should park the car, but he wasn't ready yet.

Beside him, he could sense Greg's tension and nervousness. Ianto had warned him about his family -- that his brother would probably make crude jokes about their sexual relationship, and that his father would likely be cold and possibly even cruel towards them.

His sister, Rhiannon, and his mother would, of course, be accepting and loving. They always had been. They were the ones who Ianto was really here to see.

The other two members of his family could go to hell.

For all he cared, his brother and father could both disappear, and it wouldn't bother him much. He had never gotten along with them, and probably never would.

When he had come out, his father had denounced him, declaring that he only had one son. But at this point, he had grudgingly reconciled with Ianto -- mainly because Rhiannon had shamed him into it. Ianto had no illusions as to the fact that his father still didn't completely accept him.

He really didn't want to deal with this, but he felt that he had no choice. He wanted his mother and his sister to know that he was happy, and in a good relationship.

And he wanted them to meet Greg, to get to know him. He was sure that the female half of his family would love his boyfriend, and accept them with open arms.

Of course, the reaction that they were likely to get from his father and brother would be much less enthusiastic. It would make this day bittersweet, at best; at worst, the two of them would leave here with anger towards Ianto's male family members simmering in their hearts.

But they were going to do this, he told himself firmly. Greg was nervous about meeting his family, and rightly so. Still, it was a hurdle they had to face.

He turned off the engine, looking over at his boyfriend.

"Are you ready to do this, love?" he asked, his voice somewhat unsteady. He wasn't at all sure that he was ready for this; it wouldn't be easy for either of them.

Greg smiled and nodded, reaching for Ianto's hand and twining their fingers together, squeezing his boyfriend's hand gently. "As ready as I'll ever be," he replied, then opened the passenger side door. "Come on, let's do this. I'm ready to beard the lions in their den."

Ianto couldn't help but laugh at those words; Greg was exactly right, that was what they would be doing. He already felt the bittersweet tang of what was bound to be a tense evening.

He sighed, opening the car door. Best to get it over with quickly.
