After three months, they had called a truce. Owen’s shoulder still hurt and Ianto was still bitter, but daily punchups were counterproductive, and the four of them were barely coping anyway.

It wasn’t far from that to a hesitant offer of a drink, and from that to quasi-regular drinking sessions. They weren’t friends, exactly – you couldn’t have friends at Torchwood, you ended up either fucking or hating them – but it was better than counting bruises every night.

And then Jack was back and everything went balls-up again. But, just for a while, things had been better. And that was important.
