Summary: They’re not sure what it is they have but they both want it. Ianto considers the family dynamic of the team and his role and what he means to Jack.

The Hub is never really quiet. Even at night when everyone else has gone home there is Myfanwy in her nest and the random sounds of old buildings with tunnels and places nobody, except possibly Jack, know exist.

It’s when he’s happiest there though, even after everything with Lisa. When he can prioritise the work his way and really tidy up without the others interfering.

They’ve turned into a kind of family after all they’ve been through. As dysfunctional as any real family. Owen is the angry teenager even now, pushing the limits challenging authority and feeling everything too deeply. Tosh is the good daughter, trying to keep everyone happy trying to do her best all the time. Gwen teeters between the cool aunty and the sulky eldest daughter who thinks she should be mother.

Jack could only be the father, he is the one responsible for them all being there after all. Ianto knows he has fallen into the role of mother out of his tea boy duties. He feeds them and cleans up their mess, hell he even buys Jack’s underwear (Three packs of white briefs from Marks and Spencer’s. You can’t beat the classics, Ianto.)

He’s doesn’t mind when it means times like now when Jack is pottering about, back from whatever he was doing, singing show tunes and occasionally stealing Ianto for a dance around the Hub. Or when they simply are… doing what has to be done aware the other is there, breathing the same air and just knowing that conversation isn’t always necessary.

Jack wandered in wearing only a pair of the same white briefs and towelling his hair dry. He threw his towel around Ianto’s waist and dragged the other man in closer.

“You’ll get my suit wet,” Ianto said, then made his own comment moot by pressing against Jack and kissing him. “I’ll just finish up here and join you,” he said slipped out of Jack’s embrace.

Jack stopped and checked the Rift monitor and then headed down to his quarters. When Ianto joined him he was sprawled on his bunk reading a report.

Ianto undressed quickly and joined him tossing aside the report.

“I love it when you go all manly on me,” Jack said with a cheeky grin.

“You love everything about me, sir,” Ianto replied.

“I’ve created a monster.” Jack let Ianto roll him over onto his back and climb on top.

“But I’m your monster,” Ianto grinned. “Enough of the sappiness.” He kissed Jack, taking his time and exploring Jack’s mouth completely.

They were familiar enough with each other’s bodies to find the right spots easily and things were still new enough for them to want to.

Ianto sucked on the side of Jack’s neck knowing it would drive him mad and get that little hip wriggle he enjoyed so much.

Jack’s hands were tight on Ianto’s arse pinning them together and letting Ianto know he’s not letting go. He might leave bruises and Ianto doesn’t mind as it means that later when things get crazy again he’ll have something to remind him of better moments.

It doesn’t matter who tops, but Jack knows when to let Ianto take control and Ianto has learnt enough to make it worth Jack’s while. Jack is a considerate and skilled lover and if sometimes it almost feels clinical Ianto doesn’t call him on it knowing that they all go through the motions sometimes.

It always feels good to slide inside Jack and put that look of ecstasy and pain on his face. Jack’s legs are around his waist pulling him close and encouraging him to speed up.

He dropped his mouth back down to that spot on Jack’s neck, bringing more blood to the surface, and felt Jack tighten around his cock in pleasure. Jack grabbed his head and pulled him up for a kiss fingernails biting into his neck as he thrust in deep.

When they both reach climax, Ianto always first with Jack just a beat behind, Ianto allows himself just a few minutes to enjoy the moment. Then he is cleaning up and getting dressed. Jack had asked him once to stay but the look of horror on Ianto’s face had discouraged him from asking again.

Staying over would make it something Ianto isn’t comfortable with yet although he did wish at times that Jack would ask again.

They’re lucky they both preferred collared shirts as otherwise the whole team would have their suspicions confirmed. They are just suspicions at this stage and they want it to stay that way.

Jack doesn’t care what the others think but doesn’t want the team dynamic to be threatened. Ianto has had enough of his personal life being under the spotlight and liked the privacy.

Neither really care when they are down in Jack’s quarters. They don’t get up to much in the rest of the Hub. Ianto didn’t think it was hygienic and Jack didn’t like Myfanwy watching, much to Ianto’s amusement. He teased Jack about it sometimes and Jack would point at her inquisitive eyes, which made him wonder again at her intelligence and remember how she dived at Lisa. That would lead him to find forgetfulness in Jack’s arms again and Jack left walking funny and grinning for hours.

Ianto knew it would be easy to fall in love with Jack. In his reflective moments he knew he had probably already done so, but most of the time he could pretend it was just for mutual pleasure and nothing more complicated.

The not-quite hush of the Hub was calming and he got a lot of work done, but he preferred the sounds of the others going about their daily lives to ground him.

When he pulls a blanket over Jack or pushes a pillow under Owen’s head, listens to Gwen complain about her boyfriend and shares a gossip with Tosh about last night’s telly, he feels like he is part of a family and doesn’t miss his real one as much.
