Ianto sighed with contentment as he lay back on the blanket he'd spread over the ground, gazing up at the canopy of blue sky above him. It was beautiful here, peaceful and relaxing; just the sort of place the Doctor needed to be at the moment.

He'd thought that the Time Lord looked tired lately, though he wouldn't have said so to his lover. He didn't want the Doctor to think that he was being overly critical, and the other man could be a bit vain about his looks at times.

Of course, he had a perfect right to be, Ianto thought, a smile curving his lips. In his eyes, the Doctor was the most beautiful man in existence; if he wanted to be a peacock about how he looked now and then, he could certainly get away with it.

Besides, it wasn't as though he was like that all the time, a voice piped up in the back of his mind. In fact, the Time Lord didn't seem to care how he looked sometimes; he had too many other things on his mind, like .... well, like saving the world, keeping Earth and every other planet in the galaxy safe from anything that could threaten them.

But for now, there was nothing even remotely threatening in the galaxy -- at least as far as the two of them knew. And Ianto had insisted that the Doctor take a bit of time off, that they come here so that they could both relax.

The Doctor had balked at the suggestion at first, but now that they were here, he seemed more able to relax and be lazy than Ianto had thought he would be.

He worried too much about the Doctor, he told himself as his gaze rested on his lover, sitting a few feet away from him with his face upturned towards the sky, his eyes closed, looking for all the world like a lithe, sleek cat napping in the sunshine.

Ianto could feel the sharp stab of desire that always went through him whenever he looked at the Time Lord; it would be so easy to sit up and move closer to the Doctor, wrap his arms around that slender waist and push the other man down onto his back, then begin to remove his clothes, slowly piece by piece, until the other man's soft skin was revealed ....

Stop that, he told himself sternly, almost shaking his head to reprimand himself. He'd brought the Doctor here so that his lover could relax, not so he could indulge his sexual desires. That could wait until later, when they were back in the Tardis.

Still, it would be lovely to make love out here in the sunshine, in the beauty of this deserted meadow with nothing but verdant green on all sides of them, and the brilliantly blue sky arching overhead. It was definitely a romantic setting.

And a calming one, as well. Ianto had to admit that he himself felt lazy being here; the warm sun and somnolent atmosphere made him feel like lying back and doing nothing.

He wondered if the Doctor felt the same, but it seemed as though the other man was in no hurry to get back to the ship and take them back into time and space again. From what he could tell, the Time Lord was making the most of their lazy day.

He couldn't keep himself from sitting up and moving closer to the other man, smiling when the Doctor opened his eyes and looked over at him. He slid his arms around the Time Lord's waist, pulling the Doctor close against him and nuzzling his soft hair.

"I told you that we'd both benefit from a bit of time somewhere that we could be lazy," he said softly, placing a finger against the Doctor's lips when the other man would have spoken ."Shhh, love. Don't tell me that we don't have long to be here, or something to that effect."

The Doctor shook his head, his lips curving as Ianto slowly took his finger away and he opened his mouth to speak. "I wasn't going to say that," he protested, his tone sounding a bit injured. "I was going to say that this was a marvelous idea. I think we've both needed to take a bit of time to get away from everything that we usually have to deal with."

Ianto didn't want to remind the Doctor that he usually seemed to almost be looking for trouble, even though the other man would protest that it wasn't the case. And maybe that was unfair; the Time Lord just seemed to attract trouble without trying.

"I thought we should take some time just to be lazy," he murmured, raising a hand to brush a few errant strands of hair back from the Time Lord's dark eyes. "You needed it, Doctor. You've been under a lot of stress lately."

To his surprise, the Doctor nodded in agreement, sighing and looking back up at the blue sky. "You're right, love. It seems like my life has been an unending pattern of stress."

Ianto waited for the other man to continue; it was obvious that he had more to say. The Doctor was looking away from him, his dark gaze not meeting Ianto's eyes. He seemed to be trying to form words in his mind, to consider them before he let them out.

"I'm sorry to make you deal with all of that, Ianto," he finally said, his voice low, the words coming out slowly, hesitantly. "I'd understand if you felt that you couldn't do it at some point -- I know that you dealt with stressful situations when you were with Torchwood, but I don't think they were comparable with some of what you face now."

The young man shook his head immediately, his arms tightening around the Time Lord. "That will never happen, Doctor. I wouldn't leave you, not for any reason. And certainly not because I'd rather be lazy than help you do do what you feel you must."

"Sometimes I feel that it's so much to ask of you," the Doctor murmured, leaning back so that his head was resting against Ianto's shoulder as he leaned into his lover's embrace. "You're only human, Ianto. I can't expect you to put yourself into danger for me."

"Other people have been willing to do it in the past -- and I'd like to think that I'm more to you than any of them ever were," Ianto pointed out, his arms tightening around the Doctor's waist. "I can't expect any less of myself than you would have expected of any other companion. In fact, I feel that I have to expect more."

"But you're not just my companion," the Doctor whispered. "You're my lover as well. And I would never forgive myself if anything happened to you, beloved."

"Nothing's going to happen to me, Doctor." Ianto wanted more than anything to reassure his lover, to put the Doctor at ease. That was, after all, why they were here -- he didn't want the Doctor to talk about something that would only make him feel stressed.

"Look at what's all around us." Ianto swept his hand in front of him, indicating the lush green grass all around them, the sun climbing high in the azure sky, the fluffy clouds that looked as though they only had to reach up their hands to touch their downy softness. "This is a day for being lazy and forgetting our responsibilities. Let's enjoy it, shall we?"

He didn't wait for the Doctor's affirmative nod; he bent his head to capture the Time Lord's mouth with his own, the need to kiss the other man overtaking him before he could tell his senses that they didn't need to choose this moment to be fulfilled.

But apparently the Doctor was thinking along those same lines; he lifted his face for Ianto's kiss, his lips parting and his thin arms winding around his young lover's neck.

He'd wanted the both of them to relax and take it easy here -- but it seemed as though the Doctor had other plans for them. Ianto was surprised when the Time Lord began to lay back, pulling him down, still kissing him insistently.

It seemed as though his earlier thought was actually going to be enacted, and he wouldn't complain about that. Being lazy had its merits, Ianto thought as he reached for the hem of his shirt to pull it off -- but at the moment, action seemed to be the order of the day.
